Doesn't look promising, Hilde. :(

Maybe we'll get lucky and their tour bus will drive through here on their way to/from London (Ontario). :lol

Review from astra:

first of all, thanks to the MFC for rocking out tonight. gdamn. That was so awesome, i smiled through the entire thing like a fool. and yes, it felt like it was over too soon, but i am so grateful for every second of what i got to experience tonight. it was a great tease of what i am surely in store for in the (hopefully near) future.

as for the show, it was straight rocking out with little to no talking (the only thing ryan stopped to say was to announce that the next song would be their last and that then the greatest rock n roll band was up next. and something about there being something in the water in manchester lol). very loud, very bright, and so freaking awesome.

and no, i didnt stay for oasis..

Opening song was Peaceful Valley, per lolita22 on RAA:

The Cardinals opened with Peaceful Valley... but I can't remember the second song. I fully intended to jot down the set list for all of you lovelies but I got plum carried away in the spacey beautiful-ness of it all. They sounded freaking awesome, although my companion did not like the fact that the band re-imagined the arrangements. I say, "run with it boys" and they did. I hope they had fun though, I wasn't sure that they were loving it as much as I. I left after Oasis' opening song... but they also sounded alright to me. By and large the same as they do recorded. Hilariously, the dude behind me (after comparing Ryan to Buddy Holly *cool*) asked me if Ryan Adams canceled his slot. This was right after they played. I told him that the magic he had just witnessed was indeed, Ryan, to which he said "Oh!! I thought they said they were the Cardigans or something." Crazy.
Ryan seemed pissed at the technician on the last couple of songs, he may have been cussing a blue streak at him in fact. I fully expected him to stop playing and walk over to the soundboard himself to tinker with all those things.
Matt Costa surprised me pleasantly, I enjoyed his set alot. I am very unfamiliar with his work so I don't know how his live sound compares. But I dug it.
I think the Cardinals played for a full hour, maybe a touch more... but not nearly long enough in my opinion. *sigh*
Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Oh and Easy Plateau was so beautiful I actually began blubbering. I felt a fool, but whatev, small price to pay for that kind of gift. *Love. (note to self: Stop wearing mascara to Cardinals shows.)

I think it's a little disrespectful to leave during the Oasis set....I mean, I once considered doing that had I have gone, but I've since had a change of heart.

Those tickets are pretty damned expensive for people to be leaving half way through, in my opinion.

As long as you left before Oasis started I think that's fine. It's what I would have done. I wouldn't have got up and gone while they were playing - that is disrespectful.

I dont understand anyone who leaves before or during Oasis, and not just because im a fanboy. Seeing as you've paid for your ticket you might as well enjoy the headlining act, even if you're not a fan of the band. Why not see if they can change your mind about them, enjoy the music a bit, challenge yourself, coz you know, they're one of the biggest bands around....
There are some bands that I fucking despise, but if I had a ticket to see them and they were following Ryan Adams, id stay the duration...even if it was just to bitch about them afterwards.

I think the main problem is, alot of us Cardinals fans act as snobs to other, more mainstream music.

Didn't Ryan mention something in his blog recently about how it shouldn't matter, as long as you like it?

Faded Rose
08-28-2008, 07:48 AM
I don't think that's true at all. I think it's some rather than a lot. I do however think a lot of Ryan fans are very "precious" about him and can't bear the thought of him sharing a concert with a bigger better known band and wouldn't stay for the show on principle. Me - I just don't like them but it's not snobby.

Magnolia Mountain

I wasn't saying you were snobby, Rose.

I used to be like that, I guess....Ryan has that effect on people. :lol

I didn't take it personally MM. I was just putting my point of view. I do think a lot of Ryan fans are not very objective when it comes to their hero.

Those people are idiots.
Surely if they love Ryan so much, wouldnt they wanna stay and watch one of his favourite bands play, just because it brings him so much pleasure...or is that too crazy? :lol

its only a little bit crazy, but then again arent most of the people here a little bit crazy..

This reminds me a little bit of when i saw Howie Day open for Tori amos... I cant stand tori amos, and i left after like 3 songs because it was just boring live.. but if i didnt leave i would have never got to chill with howie, it just so happend when i was walking out of the venue I ran into Howie and his girlfriend. It was actually really weird his girl started talking to my girlfriend and then it just went on for over an hour. So some good things can come from leaving early.. you never know if Ryan would wander around somewhere around after his set, but these days i doubt it.. When I ran into howie he was half wasted and drinking heavily, and we all know ryan doesnt partake in such beverages anymore.

I'm not so much of a fangirl that I'd watch a band I didn't like just because he likes them. I dislike metal too...A LOT. :lol

I did read a good interview with one of the Gallaghers in the Sat or Sun Times and it made me laugh - I quite warmed to the guy - he sounded really normal.

Noel is normal (kind of) and seems pretty level.

Liam is a fucking asshole.

I wish Noel would take over on lead vocals...permanently.

As much as I love Oasis' songs, Liam can shove that tambourine right up his cocky, rockstar ass.....and I mean this in the nicest, most loving way. :nod

I have such a great amount of love and hatred for them...kind of like the Gallagher brothers do for each other. :lol

So can any one tell me what time the Cards started their set, how long it was, and what time Oasis started (and how long their set was). This will help a taper (video) friend of mine.

From RollingStone:

Oasis & Ryan Adams Preview Upcoming Albums in Vancouver

The once scarily prolific Ryan Adams hasn’t put an album out in a while, but that didn’t stop him and his band the Cardinals from hitting the road with Oasis or from presenting a stirring set in Vancouver’s huge GM Place. Adams stuck mostly to songs from 2005’s Cold Roses and points forward, including a handful of new tunes that resulted in lengthy jams with his air-tight band. Liam Gallagher watched “Everybody Knows” and “Off Broadway” from the side of the stage and Adams mentioned that coming up after him was “one of the best bands in the world.” The best? Fellow Mancunians the Smiths, he said. “They must put something in the water there,” he said, before exiting on “Easy Plateau.”

I hate when he changes up the vocals like that.

I hate when he changes up the vocals like that.

I don't think it's always successful when he tries to 'change up' the vocals, but I do love that he tries, and sometimes the results are really stunning (that wonderwall at the fillmore). If I want to hear the vocals exactly the same, I can listen to the record.

Liam does seem like a twat.
I saw Noel at a Q & A last year following a screening of their tour/concert film. He was genuinely funny and pretty down to the earth.

Pretty much every interview I've ever seen with Noel has been pretty effin' hilarious. One of my favs.
