View Full Version : Umbrellas: Yay or Nay?

Last night I went to my favorite bar (which is getting crowded since another local bar closed, but that's another topic) and I took an umbrella because I was walking and it was kind of rainy out. When I arrived my friend proceeded to call umbrellas "lame" and made fun of me for using one (all in good fun, of course). So what do my fellow TBYers think? Are you pro-umbrella or anti-umbrella?

I'm anti-umbrella. I like the rain and I don't even run when I'm outside and it's raining.

I use an umbrella and so does hubbie. I hate getting my hands and face wet.

In general I am a supporter of umbrellas. However, I usually lose them or forget to bring them with me.

I think women use umbrellas more often than men. I'm not sure why though.

Not an umbrella person, but i hate light drizzle, the stuff that gets you soaked slowly and then is freezing afterwards. Give me a hard rainshower anyday and I will be happy!

I actually hate umbrellas and will avoid them if it's raining lightly, but I approve of them.
We've had too many rainy days in Sydney the past few months :\

Same here, dop. I only use them when it's really pouring out and they usually manage to be annoying somehow anyway. Plus if it's raining hard I find I end up getting wet anyway just trying to get it closed fast enough to get through the door. blah.

Great point foggy, why do people close them before going inside anyways? Seems a bit pointless, because you always get wet.

I'm anti-umbrella. I like the rain and I don't even run when I'm outside and it's raining.
I've never really understood why people run through the rain. It seems to me they're still going to get just as wet if not more so. Yes, you get through it quicker but it still seems as if you're running through the same amount of it.
As for the umbrella thing, I didn't vote. I don't hate them or love them. I never use them just because I hate carrying extra things around.

Also, if it's raining really hard, having an umbrella is absolutley useless.
That's when you should take off your shoes and jump in every puddle you see. I did that recently and probably looked like an idiot, but it was so much fun :D

I don't like using an umbrella if I'm driving, though because it's just so awkward and annoying trying to get back into the car with a wet umbrella
if I were walking though, I'm pro umbrella (unless I'm hiking)

OMG! I agree with Quincy!! :lol
Generally I do not like umbrellas very much. There's always the thing of what to do with it when you arrive wherever you're going. Like: "Geez, now I have this big wet thing I've got to stick in my car or drag in the store/office, whatever." :rolleyes
Also if I see a guy with one I automatically deduct 10 manly points. :downyours

Isn't that better than a big wet body and dripping hair when you arrive at your destination. The other alternative of course it to never go out when it rains - I live in the wettest city in the UK - could be a problem.

What's wrong with a rain jacket? And I don't have a problem with my man having a big wet body and dripping hair. In fact that sounds really sexy to me. ;)

Ok, I see your point here. I suppose if I lived in the wettest city around, I could possibly feel a little different. It doesn't rain THAT much around here.
