So, one of the few people that I know in this po-dunk little town I live in just invited me to go out with them tonight. They are going to see a friends band. Normally, I would be cool with this. But this particular band is an 80's cover band that I have absolutely no interest in. In fact, there's a distinct possibility that attending this show might make me want to commit suicide. Check it (http://www.gridlockrocks.net/), then you'll understand what I'm talking about.

How do I tactfully say, "no thanks, I'd rather eat shards of glass"? Keep in mind, they (she and her husband) know I have no plans tonight. And these were the same people that got me out of a huge bind a couple months ago.

Gridlock Rocks!!! :lol They do look suicide-inducing.

Hmmm...it depends on how you feel about lying. If you tell the truth, they might understand, but they might also just think you are being snooty. So, you could always pull the old "I'm not feeling well" routine.

The other option is just to go, get drunk and have as much fun as you can. Sometimes really awful bands can be great, like B movies.

Oh shit. :lol

I guess just drink until it doesnt suck?
Or go for a while and "go home to sleep"?
Or just say you don't like 80's cover bands and you guys should totally hang out some other time?

A) is a definite option -- I'm working on a buzz already.
B) they're driving....I won't have a car.
C) the husband of my friend is in an 80's cover band. Not sure how that would go over :lol

Syd and Wok say go get drunk. I think that's good advice. Question 2. What is appropriate attire for an 80's cover band? :confused

:upyours I'd go with that option if it were me. I always end up having fun at those kind of shows.

Ha. Unfortunately, all of the band t-shirts I have might be lost on the Poison crowd. I do have bleach on-hand though.

Their possible setlist songs are interesting. Did you go?
It could have been god for a laugh if nothing else.

just go get drunk, you will probably be too pissed to think it's shite and then you probably won't remember it the next morning. :P

Yeah, I went. Got drunk. The music sucked, but the people were nice. With the exception of some 6 foot tall blonde "busty" old(er) woman who wanted to kick my ass.

Not far off on the visual, there. Just think blonder, bigger boobs, Bright pink cardigan busting at the buttons with nothing under it.
