he needs to put out something new soon because The Hold Steady is gunning for the number one spot

Tom Waits swept Ryan out of the top spot in my charts a while ago.

Not just anything new - something good - although I doubt anyone will be replacing him soon as far as I'm concerned.

The National has been consistently gaining ground.

The National has been consistently gaining ground.
the national is the closest in striking distance (that I still listen to on a regular basis), but with the new THS disc, they will likely jump into 6th spot, and who knows likely up higher as the summer jams continue

He's pretty irreplacable, but lately Nick Cave has taken over my obsession slot.

Bruce took the top spot well over a year ago.

He's fairly safe for now, but he'll probably get knocked off by the end of the year.

Wilco took the top spot from him several months ago. Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello are close to surpassing him as well.

Other artists can get close depending on how often I play their particular albums, but Ryan still rules my chart given the sheer amount of albums, demos, and sessions, and that I never get tired of them.

i don't use last FM, but if i did, i'm sure ryan wouldn't be in my top spot currently, but he'd be the artist who'd be most likely to make an impressive come back with anything new. he'd probably be in the top spot more often than anyone else, but wouldn't be there all the time.

Conor Oberst's first solo album is due in August and I'm very much looking forward to it, even though Cassadaga was a disappointment.

I'm seeing Tom Waits live next month for the first time and I am verrrryyy excited,
he's in my "to see in concert before i die" list, so yeah I am trying to keep my expectations from soaring too high, but it's not working.

As far as younger solo artists are concerned Andrew Bird is very high on my list...
but I'm almsot certain that if RA stopped making music today or just made crap from now on, he would always hold a special place in my music collection, he's made so many heartfelt tunes and awesome jams that i can always go back to and rediscover and play loudly every day.

I don't use last fm, but Ryan's far from losing ground with me at this point. I'd say 80% of what I play is him... somehow he fits perfectly into all my moods.

Gotta say he still my number one, closely followed by Wilco and I always love a little bit of Cake (the band)

He inched his way to the top of my charts just two weeks ago over Fleetwood Mac (thank god finally). Should be pretty safe there for at least a month, probably more.

He took over my Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac top spot awhile ago and they will never recover now that he's in my world :D
