Holy fucking shit!

This is the closest Ry's headlining tour is coming to where I live....unless (God willing), there's a Toronto show.

Question...what exactly do I need to cross the border now?

you need a valid passport to cross the US - Canadian border now, even by land.

Shit.

Maybe I should just hold out for a T.O. show.

I'd never be able to get a passport in that short amount of time.

We have emergency passport things that you can get in a short amount of time, but they are way more money.

I imagine canada would do the same.

I might know some fools, as long as you don't mind that your name is now Imelda.

Somehow, I don't think they'd consider seeing a Ryan Adams concert an 'emergency'.

That is all they are interested in. But you can say that your friend has come down with rare robot botulism and you need to visit her.

I was quite sure you only absolutely need a passport for air travel to the US. From the ground, you can probably get across with just a driver's license and a birth certificate. I think the passport requirement via ground only comes into effect in June 2009.

yup, hilde's right on all counts. I retract my previous statement.

except it doesn't have to be a driver's license, just a government-issued ID. And your original birth certificate, as some CBP guys can be assholes about copies.

I may as well just wait.

Get a passport now if you can. If you wait until spring, you're gonna be screwed.

Here's what the US Dept. of State says about travel between Canada and the U.S. This page is meant for US Citizens, but the same rules apply to Canadians crossing to our side.

This is correct...at least for the TX/Mexico border. Plus, they give you one "free" pass to play dumb and not have your birth certificate.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't bank on this. It's not official policy or anything, and some border guards are nicer than others. We dealt with some real assholes on power trips at my last job (at an immigration law firm). If I had important plans like a concert I'd spent $$ on, I'd be careful and make sure to have the right documentation.

Google Maps says it's about 1.5 hours from Niagara Falls to Rochester.

I hear it most days on the radio here about the land passport laws coming into effect in June 2009, so hopefully get people's butts in gear.

Is anyone opening up for Ryan?

I got a connection through the band and hopely will be able to meet them before or after show!

Yes, the vast majority of the setlist will be original material. They may do one or two covers or possibly a Neal Casal song. If you check through our Tour Archives section that will give you an idea of past setlists. They usually do not have an opener, but there have been the occasional exceptions to this in the past. Check with the venue I guess. If you do get to meet them, I'm sure we'd love to hear about it.

I don't have the setlist since I didn't keep track, but even though this wasn't one of their longest shows, it was just insane. Literally insane, everything was perfect, songs like Off Broadway, Peaceful Valley, I See Monsters, and the new stuff like Natural Ghost and Go Easy were killer.

Best show I have ever been to by far.

Everything up until Freeway (it's great song, just a set killer) was unbelievable.

they also weren't very talkative...but all around great show

btw, not too impressed with Rochester, or at least the surrounding area of the venue...no bars, no restaurants...no one even willing to take Canadian money...wtf??

ok now that i have slept a little bit after the long trip i willl elaborate a little on this amazing night.

So i left Atlantic city nj at 7am , got lost a few times. Realized since i bought the tickets from stub hub the night before that they were never sent to me until the day of the show. Luckily about an hour from rochester we found a fed ex - kinkos were i could print them out for 7 dollars. Made it into the weirdest town i have ever seen (rochester) at around 5:30.

Can anyone tell me what is that place? The theater reminded me of a high school auditorium. we parked near the busses and just relaxed and had some beers after the 8 hour drive. Met Marty and his friends from canada, good times man.
As soon as the lady walked me to the 5th row i almost shat myself being as close as I was. I really had no idea what to expect, being that i had never been to the area. Everything he played last night sounded perfect. Loved the newer songs. The show ended and I go out to the car. Ryan is walking around behind his little boxed in fence. 2 girls made it back there but the guards were being pricks about just trying to say hi. We ended up sleeping in the parking lot in the back seat of the car rather then drive 8 hours home.
woke up today at the aud, and its like a ghost town there. got lost again on the way home. made it home by 4pm..

All in all the trip was soooo worth it. I filmed a bunch of random shit along the way and at the show. They let me bring the video camera in but no tripod, so i didnt film the whole show. So ill share the footaage as soon as i get around to editing it.

Overall AMAZING SHOW.

yes, it was definitely taped by some of the people I was with. One of whom had the Albany show up within 24 hours, so I don't think it should be too long... I think the girl you thought was taping (redhead dancing like crazy in the aisle?) was my friend.

I got some amazing amazing pics last night before I left my 2nd row seats to go dance out back. Especially during Sun Also Sets. My avatar is one of them. I'll upload them as soon as I can.

Canon SX100 IS. I think that's what it's called. It only cost me like $200 on sale. Especially considering the price, I couldn't have better things to say about it. A friend I was with at these shows has the same one and loves it too.

Comments....

As a Rochesterarian I feel I need to comment

1. Unfortunately the venue is in a pretty desolate area. You were very close to a bunch of bars and restaurants but without local knowledge you wouldn't know where to go. Next time maybe I will post a guide to Rochester. Sorry that part of your trip didn't work out for you.

2. The venue itself may resemble a high school auditorium but i thought it made for a very intimate show.

3. This was my second Cardinals show. I saw them a year or so ago in Toronto and it appears the lack of banter is pretty typical.

4. Thanks for the great pictures

5. Since I live here i should know this but I think the lack of an encore was do to an 11 PM curfew. I thought I heard ryan say that they would play right up to the curfew. Did anyone else here this? Did he play an encore the night before in Syracuse?

La Cienega
09-29-2008, 03:12 PM
I think there was an 11pm curfew all three nights (Albany, Syracuse, Rochester). In Albany, he commented early on about the curfew and said they'd skip intermission because of it. They did a 1 song encore there (Dear John) and when they came back on said thank you to the venue for giving them permission to play one song past curfew.

In Syracuse Ryan said something at the end like we don't have time for that whole rockstar thing where we pretend to leave and you cheer and we come back on for an encore, so they just played straight through.

We asked at our hotel and they told us nothing was near the venue and that we shouldn't walk home through that neighborhood... so we ate and had drinks elsewhere then cabbed over for the show. I loved the old-school 'auditorium' neon sign on the front of the building. The venue sounded great to me, I had no problems with it and sorta enjoyed the high school auditorium feel (felt like the Berkeley Community Theater - which is a hs auditorium - where I saw an amazing cards show last summer).

i have been waiting for this too. I think wonderwall was the only full song i recorded on video, but i still have to edit it, it was fucking amazing i will say that. As soon a i find a program to upload that video i will post it up here.

yup, Bill was definitely plugged into the soundboard, although this says "soundboard matrix" so I don't know if that means he did something additional to it? I don't usually pay attention to these things so maybe it always says matrix after SBD.

:lol its a quick shot of you guys, I was so delerious by that time. I didnt sleep the night before the show because i was to excited, then we left at 7 am and drove 8 hours. I really think a drunken baby could have taken better footage, but hopefully I can edit out all the random horrible shots. Anyone know of a free video editing program that is simle enough for someone who has never edited any movies. I have edited music before but not video.

this would help greatly and then i can get that kickass version of wonderwall up.:upyours:upyours:banana:banana:banana

I do think there is a difference between a soundboard and a soundboard/matrix recording. I believe the difference with a matrix is you're plugged into the soundboard but also use a mix with the audience so the recording doesn't lose it's warmth. I believe that's the case at least. Anyway, the recording is absolutely brilliant. I don't know who Bill is, but cheers to him for such a great recording. :beer

and on RAA I think. I already downloaded it and am playing it, and so far this is my favorite show--the Wonderwall is amazing, well really all of it is just fabulous. Sounds really good, too for an audience tape.
