More than five months into the year - what is your call for the best new album so far?

Sydneyfan

Devil on a Bench in Stanley Park - Justin Rutledge for me (released Feb 2007 in Australia). Pure perfection and I doubt anything is going to top it for my AOTY.

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

Both excellent albums and at the top of my list.
I'm interested in hearing The National's Boxer, seeing as it's getting a lot of great reviews and so many people are already raving about it.

Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha will probably also make my top 10 of 2007, even though I only discovered Andrew Bird a few weeks ago.

Sky Blue Sky by Wilco, although my vote for best album so far has been going back and forth a lot lately between that and The Reminder by Feist.

Also, if anyone's interested, click Here (http://rateyourmusic.com/list/SkortBrun/top_albums_of_2007) to see my top albums of 2007 list.

I don't think I've actually bought any other '07 albumn. :)

Ooh! The Arcade Fire one was good, definitely a grower, that.

Rutledge still out in front for me. Maybe the new Ritter will be able to challenge it. Springsteen Live in Dublin, Short Stories by Oh Susanna and Emotionalism by The Avett Brothers are the other ones I'm really loving so far.

Bruce Springsteen - Live In Dublin

Without a doubt. And I can't believe I said Arcade Fire before, it's not brilliant.

Still J Tillman - haven't changed on that.

Why do I feel disloyal not saying Easy Tiger - or does this thread not include RA?

I'm also waiting on the new Josh Rouse album - I like him a lot.

I have a feeling that with the August releases of both Josh Ritter and Patrick Park one of those two will probably be topping my list at years end.

On a related note, I thought it might be fun to devise a TBY Top 10 or Top 5 (?) Albums of 2007 list in December.

We usually do a Top 10 New Albums thread anyhow, so it could be incorporated into that.

I guess the easiest way is to get everyone to nominate their top 10 albums and then award them points eg:.10 points for Ist, 9 for second etc. We could then tabulate all the points and come up with an overall Top Albums list for the board.

If anyone has any better ideas about this and how to work it, I'd love to hear them.

I love it, now just don't put the cool indie bands and all that. Don't forget that some of us, [IE me] enjoy the trite-harmless pop records, see: Mandy Moore and Kelly Clarkson. God save me, I can't help it, sometimes I just want to listen to something harmless.

The Avett Brothers Emotionalism tops my list.

Get out to see them live while you can still see them in a small venue. for a sample - go to youtube and search "avett" plus either "murdered in the city" or "in the curve". Then try "talk on indolence".

Josh Ritter - I've pre-ordered it from the US so hope to get it soon after release date (better service than Easy Tiger I hope). Looking forward to it. It may even bring my purchases of new albums up to 10.

No - I gave Newbury Comics another whirl (even tho I swore I wouldn't use them again) - to get the signed cover. I can't remember how much I paid including postage - about $18.00 I think.

Very cheap for a signed, overseas record.

A brand new record usually costs between £12 - £15 if you go out and buy in a shop.

15 pounds!! That's equal to ~ AU$37 (We usually pay about $30).
Americans are so lucky. Music is cheap in the USA, unlike for the rest of us :\
