Back in May of 2005, Ryan came into XM Radio to do an amazing set for The Loft (XM Channel 50). I hung out to meet him and he was soooo cool and receptive. I almost didn't want to meet him, because if he was in one of his "moods" and yelled at me, then it might be hard for me to play one of his records w/o thinking of that again. Luckily, that didn't happen.

The thing I remember most about seeing him so up-close was how small and fragile he looked up until he strapped his guitar on. Then he came alive, stood up straight and seemed to grow like 2 feet. He is a true musician.

When I was introduced to him, he shook my hand, stepped in close to me and almost whispered, "so what'd you think of the show?", as if he was really interested in what I thought.

Celebrities never make me nervous, unless I really love what they do, so I was almost shaking when I met Ryan. I've loved his music since "Heartbreaker" and that album got me into Whiskeytown.

OK, so after the private show (taped air), he headed off to do an interview. During that interview, he made little sense, but kept drawing and fidgeting. I've attached the picture he drew on that day, during that interview. Unfortunately he didn't sign it, but I swear he drew this dragon.

I thought you guys would like to see it.

Is that the interview where they talk about Coal Miner's Daughter?

Great story, nice picture.

I remember when I met Ryan in Buffalo a few years back.

There was a group of us standing around and someone handed him a sketchbook. Ryan then proceeded to draw a sketch of that person while telling some story. We were all just standing there listening to his every word...10 minutes go by and he'd drawn an amazing sketch of that person.

It was pretty cool to see, he's one hell of an artist.

I met him after the Buffalo show too and actually took a pic of that sketch. It was a pretty funny caricature. It was nice that he stood out there chatting so long with us. Where you there when he took off his jacket and started showing us his tattoos? heh. I also remember him running back to the tour bus and grabbing his camera and taking photos of a couple people's tattoos.

I remember him mentioning that the guy (he made the sketch of) wore his hair parted on the side in the same way his Grandfather did, then he told us some really sweet stories about his Grandfather. That was such a great night.

I'll attach the pic I took.
