So is RA going to fall into the mold of just producing a cd every year and a half or so? I personally loved it when he did 3 in a year with 29 arguably having his best writing on it. so what does everyone think?

He's spamming, just ignore him.
I agree with you, I loved 2005 although I wasn't a big fan of 29 too much. And I don't think he is going to settle into a record-every-18-months routine, it just doesn't suit him. :)

let's hope not at least. Not many people liked 29 very much, but just listening to it, the songs are fantastically written and don't flirt with cliches that a lot of music does.

I love 29. I can never understand why so many people don't like it.

Probably b/c they're lame. 29 owns Easy Tiger.

I dislike it because it's so mixed up - and there's far too many piano ballads on it.

Edit: But the record is right for a very specific mood.

I agree. It's definitely not a summer time album. But as soon as fall/winter swing around Love Is Hell & 29 will be in constant rotation.
Edit: The giant gerbil man can never be lame. You are exempt from the rule!

See, the thing is, I absolutely DESPISE Love Is Hell. I guess that's why I'm not a fan of 29 either because it's the same sort of stuff.

Heh, I'm holding you to that now. ;)

The Love Is Hell/Rock'n"Roll era was not good for me. I only like a couple of tracks off both of those albums.
However, I like 29. A couple of the track I don't care for, but the ones I do like are very high in my RA catalouge.

I find 29 to be the superior record simply because of that fairly fantastic closer (which I've forgotten the name of :lol). :)

29 is his best album ever.
I hope RA doesn't fall into that category of only producing one album every 12-18 months - and only a middle of the road one at that - however I do wonder how much of his prolific output was due to drugs/alcohol. I think he's a really talented guy but how long can you carry on with such a prodigious output and maintain any sort of quality control and not be repetitive and RA is not noted for his editing skills.

the way i see it, RA has so many songs that he simply doesn't get onto cd's, which is crazy for as many cd's he's put out as it is. Also, if I had to make a choice between coke and heroin addicted RA or clean and sober RA, i'll take the latter any day.

I'm with you on that - even it does slow down production.

I'm still amazed he was able to kick the habits by himself. Maybe he's looking to move into the same category as Stevie Ray Vaughan when he become a teetotaler. Arguably SRV's best music was produced then. Let's just hope, right?

I think he's got a lot of songs still in him, but what gets put out may have more to do with his relationship with Lost Highway. Wasn't he he pissy with them not to long ago?

yeah, him and luke lewis have a very love/hate but ultimately, brotherly relationship. this is the guy who wouldnt put out Love Is Hell.
(which i agree is not at the top of my RA list, either.)
but i think now that Easy Tiger has done so well in comparison to Ryan's other works (and as far as i can tell, most of Lost Highway outside of Cash) i bet Lewis is a little more apt to let Ryan do as he pleases.

I'm just going to throw my 2 cents in...
I really really like Love is Hell, but dont care too much for 29....
Honestly, track by track I think its his weakest record... Just my own opinion though, it doesnt hit me on an emotional level like most of his other records do.
That being said, when I saw him recently I was impressed by the bands take on some of these 29 songs, Nightbirds, Carolina Rain, Blue Sky Blues (God what a difference losing that string section made)

actually i think the string section in blue sky blues elevates it into the category of spectacular. The song hits every part of RA's career. You get the piano so elegantly played in "Oh my Sweet Carolina", you get the writing that is really unrivaled in most of his other work, or at least from what i've heard out of my collection of 500+ songs i've listened to of his. Who here wouldn't want to have someone tell them that even though they'd lose everything, they'd still try. My absolute favorite part of the song is the faint trumpet that was always so eloquently placed in his Whiskeytown years. Reviewers say that 29 is his reflection on his career, and even life, damn do I hear it in Blue Sky Blues.
As for the strings part, being a fan of Dvorák, Mozart and others, it just works so well with the song. Just completely encompasses the entire mood of the song.
Favorite Tracks on 29 for me, in order from favorite to least: Blue Sky Blues, Carolina Rain, Night Birds, 29, Voices, Starlite Diner, The Sadness, Strawberry Wine, Elizabeth...
