Its more fun than Christmas and drags on much much longer!!

The Rugby World Cup is coming up and TBY rugby fans thought we would make it more interesting by holding a sweepstakes competition open to all.

You don't need to know anything about rugby - just sign up and you will be allocated a country at random. If that country wins the World Cup, you win as well. There will a fabulous prize, to be decided at a later date when it gets figured out.

Please add your name to this thread if you want to participate. We need 20 people.

Nothing so far leads me to think they will. It's quite a tough first group apart from the US and we haven't looked very impressive so far. I would still expect us to go through though.

I agree you have a tough pool, but should advance, but you never know what can happen

while I dont think we will make it out of our pool, I will be supporting Canada, and if they lose I will move to my back up of Australia.

Good choice - Australia. I never underestimate the South Africans though.

The Southern Hemisphere teams always seem to be well fancied. Don't underestimate France on home ground and they've already stuffed England and Wales (yeah well) in the warm ups but at least they'll be full of confidence - a team full of Zidanes was quoted in my newspaper today.

I think New Zealand are the ones to beat in this competition. Talk is they have peaked too early, but I'm not convinced. The Saffers, Australia (if they don't have too many slow starts and last minute brain explosions) and possibly France and England are the others I fancy with a chance.

Haha, no money involved since you don't get to choose your own team.

All the action starts in 8 days. :guitarsolo

When are we getting our teams. The child is convinced I'll get Portugal. I fancy South Africa or France. I don't think England stand a chance. Out of the home countries I probably fancy Ireland the most and that has nothing to do with the fact that I think Brian O'Driscoll is kind of cute.

I still need for 2 more people. If I can't get them, I'll just randomly give some people two teams instead. I think I'll do the team draws tomorrow. Cup starts Friday (?) Australian time I think.

How about giving an extra team to whoever gets one of the lower rated teams so that they have a more even chance. It starts Friday here in UK (well France anyway). There are 3 matches on Saturday and I'm at a bloody wedding.

Yep, that's not a bad idea, cheers. Pity about the wedding, isn't that always the way though? The time zone is a huge pain for us - all the games are on in the middle of the night/early morning, so I suspect I'll only be watching the finals live.
