He was in a good mood...the whole band sounded incredible together. It was just such a joy to see real musicians doing their thing. I didn't get the setlist down, but off the top of my head they played Tears of Gold, Magnolia Mountain, Let it Ride, My Sweet Carolina, Goodbye Rose, Sylvia Plath, Rescue Blues. He played the piano for several songs...was joking around with the audience a fair bit...I'm still on a high, I'll have to collect my thoughts and post again later! All in all a fantastic night...

Gah, it was amazing!! I had just the best time, I'm still floating. :D I was literally front row right in front or Ryan. :guitarsolo He was in a great mood, audience was really welcoming, tons of cheering, although there were a lot of people shouting out songs which he made a joke about thankfully. Basically said he couldn't understand anyone and it all sounded like caveman speak. So every time someone shouted something, he would just shout back something inaudible in caveman speak. It was quite funny. :lol I did write down the setlist:
A Kiss Before I Go
Beautiful Sorta
Cold Roses
Goodnight Rose
Dear John
Games
Let It Ride
Freeway to The Canyon
Tears of Gold
Rescue Blues
Dear Chicago
Wildflowers
Peaceful Valley
Please Do Not Let Me Go

Oh My Sweet Carolina - I was soo happy he played this, god it was just brilliant!
To top it off one of the roadies came up to me and gave me the setlist after the show and Ryan's guitar pic! I was so happy! :D Maybe because I was so goofy the whole show, really into it, they decided to reward me. hehehe. I also got a poster, I'll take a pic if no one else has.
I've seen Adams in Toronto a number of times, and while I've always enjoyed his performances, it always seems something gets in the way of it being a less-than-stellar evening: When he was here a couple months ago, his voice was apparently faltering (although I never noticed); his May 2005 performance was marred by an indifferent audience that clearly wasn't familiar with the new music (which he played almost exclusively), and the Rock 'N' Roll show was, well, a Rock 'N' Roll show.
This night, however, was great on both ends: The band was in top form and good spirits, playing to an attentive, appreciative audience. I was astounded how silent they were at times. Of course, some dope up in the balcony was yelling for "Shallow" half the night, but Ryan laughed it off. He was in a very good mood and brought some levity to the second half of the show.
Massey Hall should be the exclusive venue for every concert Ryan Adams plays in Toronto from now on; the acoustics and overall vibe are fantastic.
An awesome night.

I was too! At times you could have heard a pin drop.

Thank you. :) When he came out with the harmonica on I had my fingers crossed he would play OMSC, I was so happy that he did, it's still probably my all time favorite Ryan song.
I should add there were songs sprinkled throughout the setlist that weren't played, those were:
Call Me On Your Way Back Home
Two
What Sin Replaces Love
Rip Off
Easy Plateau
He ended up playing other songs instead that weren't listed. Show was about 2 hours.

call me on your way back home would have been great.
especially since it seems he's also back into using the harmonica.
i'm begging to God that this isn't a one-off and this is setting the tone for this stretch of shows.

we are in the same boat, sir.
haha.
That was a great show. I'd loved his Chewbacca/Caveman taunts at the meatheads that kept screaming out songs....
Did that girl end up having her baby? LOL...
Did any one get any pics from the show? I'd love to see some.
I don't see any reviews from any of the local papers (Globe, Sun, Star)

Guy Terrifico on the alt org had a nice little summary including some of the banter:
Just got back from the Toronto show. WOW! What a great night. I've seen Ryan a couple of times now and this show was by far the best I have ever seen him play. The Cardinals were spot on and Ryan was in a great mood. I'm not a huge fan of Peaceful valley but it was by far the stand out song of the night for me
"Set List
1. A Kiss Before I Go
2. Beautiful Sorta
3. Cold Roses
4. Good Night Rose
5. Dear John
6. Games
7. Let It Ride
8. Freeway to the Canyon (Neal solo)
9. Tears of Gold
Talking to the crowd: "when your yelling stuff you just sound like cavemen" Ryan starts to grunt. The whole band starts grunting like cavemen.
10. Rescue Blues
11. Dear Chicago
12. Wild Flowers
Talking to the crowd:
Women "I want to have your baby!"
Ryan "Wait I heard that! You think your having a baby? Listen you should know if your having a baby. Maybe you just ate some weird Thai food. When I eat spicy food I sometimes feel like I'm going to have a baby
13. Peaceful Valley
14. Please Do Not Let Me Go
15. Night birds
16. Carolina Rain
Talking to the crowd: "wow during that song I threw up a little in the back of my mouth. I felt a little chunk come up...the best part is I swallowed it. I don't have to make out with me. I could eat a bowl of green onions and it would not make a difference with me. My mike kinda smells now."
17.Magnolia Mountain
Encore
18. Sylvia Plath
talking to the crowed: why are you clapping I don't even know what I'm going to play
19. Sweet Lil Gal
20. Sweet Carolina"
3 cheers for tears of gold!!!!!

I'll just echo what everyone else has said, it was a great show! The highlights for me were the Dear John and Games harmonies (you could hear a pin drop), the rocked out Peaceful Valley(!!!!!), the jammed out Magnolia Mountain (which I have on video!) and when the harmonica came out I nearly died. What a treat!
I think I have some banter on video too, so you guys can hear the caveman grunting. Cute stuff! I'll get that on youtube or something.
Ryan was super funny, even the the barfing in his mouth story. We waited by the buses for at least an hour or more, but he scooted by so fast on his cellphone. Cute hat, though. Til next time! All the other Cards were super available to the fans outside.
I wish I had gotten to meet you foggy!
