anyone else going tonight?

I'm both excited and nervous about tonight. He has been pretty unpredictable lately and after years of listening to him, this will be my first time seeing him live! I hope it's great like the chicago, iowa city, and Montreal shows. :guitarsolo

Funky Avocado is getting texts from the venue. Seems to be true. Hopefully, RA is just kidding, or he'll play something else instead.

I know all the arguments against shouting out songs, but to be honest, I still don't really get it. It's a concert, not freaking church.

Nah, actually it's not true. He's just pretending to do it. Someone just posted this on RAA:

"No he isnt serious. He is gonna play the set that he wants to play. He is pretending to be scratching songs off so that people will finally learn that they can't do this at his show. Unfortunately, many fans are casual fans and don't read message boards or even realize that an entire show can be blown because of these seemingly insignificant requests."

apparently a ton of banter tonight. he laid on the ground again, but in a joking manner between him and neal. i guess everything was going good, and then someone yelled out "i bet you want a cigarette now" and another yelled out "sober my ass" while ryan was running around the stage, and i guess his whole personality changed after that. from what my sister said, he seemed pissed off the rest of the night after those comments. that's all i've got for now, but she said the show was still incredible.

The show was amazing. It was two hours long with only a 3 to 5 minute break between the set and the encore. They jammed a lot. There was a good vibe between the band and the audience. You guys already know the setlist but I just want to say that it was incredible. Ryan sounded amazing.

Now to clear things up. When people started yelling out song titles, Ryan said to the audience "I'm flattered when people yell out song titles but neal gets pissed and likes to not only cross that song off the set list but also likes to punch those people in the throat" (this was done in a joking and very funny manner). He and neal switched places and acted like each other throughout the set. When people yelled out the cigarrette and sober jokes he only looked at them and said "hey, it's not my karma". He played everything off so well. He did not let it dampen his mood at all. I was up front so I could tell.
overall it was a very good show.

sorry the review kinda sucked. ask me any questions you want cleared up about the show and i will answer it in the most non confusing way i know how haha.

edit: i'm sorry that was all over the place. i'm tired.

thanks mango, that's weird though. i wonder why. the only change in his mood that i could see was when someone yelled "(something, I could not understand the words) SUCKS". I saw ryan look up into the crowd and he looked irritated. Then he just made jokes at people and his band mates and moved on. He seemed to be in pretty good spirits when the left the stage after the encore. But like you said, I guess we just got different impressions.

review from Dave P.

I just got back from the show - Ryan talked about it being his second day of not smoking and he was going crazy. There were a lot of people yelling out songs and he went into a whole thing about crossing them off and Neil was going to find you and punch you. He was a good sport tonight. He played 2 hours and said that he was tired.

There was a lot of banter through out and Ryan and Neil made fun of each other, mocking each others stage presence.

Some lady yelled out "I Love You" and he immediately shot back "Then I appologise in advance"

Someone else yelled something about Helicopters and he started making Helicopter sounds, it was pretty funny.

They played with some good energy and sounded great. I hope that someone recorded this one.

I See Monsters to me was the highlight of the night as they really rocked it out. Peaceful Valley was sweet and Cold Roses was a great finish to the first set.

It was a great show. The poster for this one was of the Rose formed out of water coming from a fountain as KC is the city of fountains. I picked one up 60/300. It's pretty cool.

Home. Was a very nice set, kept me guessing. Shakedown 2nd was a huge throw off. He played his new acoustic for "Two".

I know I talked to Neal after the show but I for the life of me couldn't tell you what about.

Apparently one of my friends tagged along behind Graboff and Spacewolf all the way to Westport, only to have a hissy fit when he realized that they could care less. The last thing I remember is seeing Feinstein in some sort of beer garden or something as I was going to get pizza before we left.

All in all, glad I went. A RA show was stranger than even I could've imagined. (A lot of weird yelling to himself in between songs).

I agree burgerqueen. Really, what's the likelihood that those same people would be so blatantly mean-spirited to someone in person (face-to-face). I really don't get why they think it's any less cruel just because the person they're saying it to happens to be well known.

I was getting pissed at the audience on several occasions. i just don't understand how people can be so obnoxious. I can't even count the number of times people stood up to go to the bathroom, get another beer, or talk on their cell phones in the lobby right in the middle of the set. It seemed like when one person got up ten more followed. A lot of people around me were awful about that. I just don't understand why they would do that and not only block the view of people who actually want to see the show but also show disrespect for the artist that they paid to see.

For the most part the audience was very well behaved. But we all know that a few people can ruin it for the rest. I'm just glad ryan behaved and put on a good show.

I think part of the problem is that when he really was pissed on stage people would bait him and he would respond without really being aware of what was going on and it became good fun "let wind up Ryan Adams". He's moved on but unfortunately a lot of the concert goers haven't.

As for the other bad behaviour- the getting up for the loo or a beer or talking on your phone- that's just plain bad manners in any company.

of course, i agree. i was really annoyed because it seems to happen a lot at Ryan Adams' shows. When you see an artist at a theatre with seats it is rude to get up in the middle of his or her set. There was plenty of time to stock up on beer and go to the bathroom before the show started. All they have to give up is 2 hours of their time to see a good show but that is too much for some people. It's not only rude to ryan but to other fans as well. i did not enjoy watching people moving to and from their seats while Ryan was playing. People would never do that at the Sigur Ros, Wilco, or Arcade Fire theatre shows (to name a few) that I've been to. I guess it's just the audience that Ryan gets.

"As for the other bad behaviour- the getting up for the loo or a beer or talking on your phone- that's just plain bad manners in any company."

I disagree. Some people can't hold their pee for 2 hours especially when they've been drinking. Talking on the phone yes that's stupid. But beer and peeing are kinda necessary, although I always make sure to get up quietly during a song break, and during a song that I don't particularly care if I see it played. Same thing for smokers. I just refer to these songs as "pee break songs" which may be offensive but at any entertainment event you will have this and all performers should be used to it.

I understand this. If it was one or two people gettting up ang going out every once in awhile that would be fine. What I don't understand is why an obnoxious amount of people have to get up during the set. Sometimes the same people would get up every other song. I don't like having to watch 10 people getting up in the middle of a song just to go to the bathroom or refill their drinks multiple times. It blocks the view of the people who are trying to watch the show and want to see every song. That's why there is time before the show to go to the bathroom and buy drinks and usually the cardinals have several intermissions between songs.

i ramble too much. haha.

The lighting wasn't that great, and Ryan said no shots from in front of the stage, so these will all be from the side.
