yeah i have to agree with that one because i remember reading an interview about easy tiger, he was asked a question about goodnight rose and ryans responce was like "yeah, more like goodnight ryan"

he just says "Rose" do he doesnt have to say "I" all the time.
it's a popular songwriting method to put things in the 3rd person so you don't sound pretentious.

and plus, sometimes it's easier to write about yourself if you dont think you're writing about yourself and you can put all the things you want to say onto someone else.

I want to say why pick a girl's name but then a guy would pick a girl's name...I just like to be contentious some times is all...as in Goodnight Rose - "get out of that dress".

it's also the fact that a rose can be an object rather than just a person.
"poor little rose, beaten by the rain", etc.
that and i think he just really loves the rose imagery.
like "Cold Roses" has no tie-in to himself, i don't think.
it's just the rose as a symbol for love or beauty or being romantic.

it's kind of like how he uses "dress" as imagery.
"and her weapon of choice is a red pattern dress" - don't ask for the water.
"i like the patterns on your dress, they blind me" - here's to the rest of the world.
"what am i 'sposed to realize, some girl with cheap dresses and lies" - All I Wanted a.k.a. Comfortable only at night.
