I'm really happy about this so I thought I'd post, despite the fact I realize most of you probably aren't nearly as excited as me.

My mom bought my tickets to the Ryan show I'm going to next week as an early birthday present because she had no idea what to get me & I had mentioned at one point I was bidding on a ticketmaster auction for them, so she offered to pay if I won. Anyway, she was like, "Who the hell is this guy anyway? I've heard you talk about him but have no idea who he is." How she didn't know I have no idea because when I was still in high school I used to listen to Gold on repeat constantly, but oh well.

So, I decided to take on the challenge of going through all my Ryan music & whittling it down to 1 mix cd and I mailed it to her. She just emailed to tell me how much she loves it and has been listening to it since she got it. This is my first successful time of making somebody a fan. I actually thought it would be her husband who liked it, so we'll see, maybe I made two. :D

Good mix - I like it. Great job.

I took my best friend to a Ryan concert and instead of making her a Ryan fan it made her a Neal Casal fan! You can't win them all I guess.

I have to admit, I was tilting it in her favor by including Dear John & Down in a Hole because my mom likes both Norah & AIC already. But Dear John is probably the one I would have put on anyway even if she weren't on it.

I'm hoping my mom's husband likes the cd because he's ridiculously hard to buy for because he's, well, he's a really boring person, and there really isn't anything he wants/needs because whenever he wants something he just buys it. So I was thinking if he likes the mix cd I can pick up a few Ryan cds for him for Christmas and then he gets something that I don't have to cringe when I buy. :upyours

My Mom used to hate Ryan's voice and whenever I'd play his music, but on the last season of American Idol somebody sang When The Stars Go Blue, she knew who really sang it(not McGraw as they said on the show), started listening to Gold, and it progressed from there. I think the last time I looked at some of her iPod statistics she'd listened to, among others, Oh My Sweet Carolina and Magnolia Mountain over 100 times.

my parents don't like him
but out of my music collection
they hate bob dylan and springsteen the most
my dad likes neil young, yes, and the beatles
that's about the only place our taste in music overlaps

i got my brother into jacksonville city nights and 29, he listens to it
now and then, but i dream of making somebody a more avid fan
or meeting someone who's really into his music..
same goes to tom waits or springsteen, artists i'm perhaps too passionate about and i wish i knew someone to share that passion and to ramble on and on about their music.
or to have drunk singalongs, yes..i know how lame i am ;-)

(random note - good news i got sent home early today,
bad news the fires are getting out of control down here in san diego
my boss and one of my coworkers had to evacuate, the fires were less than a mile from their homes.. eeeeeeeek)

I can't believe they were announced it as his song, that's crazy. Even if they said it was a cover, that would have been better.

That's just the best feeling ever, "converting" someone. I've had so many friends make fun of me for so long for being crazy about Ryan, but when I finally got them to sit down and listen, really listen, they've all come around.

I took a couple friends like that to a show a couple months back, and afterward they both looked at me and said "I understand what you mean." Priceless.

yeah, i had a friend who always gave me shit for listening to Ryan all the time.
i burned him a CD with a bunch of songs/albums on it (shh, he's since baught some albums) and now the past few times i've gotten in his car, he's listening to Ryan.

the night i gave him the CD, he called me and said "Dude... September..." :lol

I think Faith Hill was the "advisor" that week, but it still makes no sense. I'm sure Ryan doesn't mind though, as he's said, he has a pool made of unicorn bones thanks to that song.:lol

I'm old enough to be most of the TBYer's mothers, and I've been a fan for 10 years - since Whiskeytown . I eventually converted my partner to Ryan by showing him the Live in Jamaica DVD. He'd been sneering at Ryan's voice for years, but when he saw the DVD he was converted, saying "Hey, this guy's pretty good" He now concurs with my opinion that Ryan is the Best of the Best.

I've converted my girlfriend, but it was at first through Come Pick Me Up and then through brute force of playing RA music wherever we were. I guess that still happens and she doesn't complain about it, so she must like him.

She actually made a mix CD for a friend of hers that went on a roadtrip with us and she was intrigued by the RA stuff I was playing. I couldn't for the life of me tell you the tracklist, though.

The first album I bought for her was Heartbreaker. I guess that really isn't that sweet, considering the album...
