View Full Version : Most disappointing film you've seen this year?

Films you had high hopes for but then proved to be a big let down. It can be someting you've seen at the cinema or at home.

For me, at the cinema, probably The Illusionist. With Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti in the cast and comparisons being made to The Prestige (pffft....no) I thought this would be great film. Instead it was tedious, drawn out and the surprise ending could hardly have been more blindingly obvious.

At home, Jindabyne. Despite a great cast and stunning visuals, this ended up having all the emotional impact of a Volvo commercial.

Spider-Man 3.
It felt campy with that bit of Peter turning "dark" (or whatever you'd call that) And it seemed like they just tried to fit so many villains and small subplots in and just mucked it up. And Topher Grace is a boring Venom, who was one of my favorite comic characters.
Of course, the visual effects were great and Thomas Haden Church was good as Sandman, but I just walked out disappointed. Luckily, I didn't pay.
Also, Bruce Campbell in that little cameo was easily the best part of the movie.

And I agree about Illusionist. I love both Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti, but it was just such a standard movie. The Prestige was far, far better.

Even though it's from 2006, Lady in the Water.

Absolute pretentious rubbish.

Totally agree. The Sixth Sense was a good film, but everything else M Night Shyamalan has made since has been various degrees of disappointing.

He's become something of a joke really.

It's his scripts, rather than his directing abilities that have really gone to hell I think. I thought both The Village and Signs had some nice moments of tension and atmosphere but were let down by a weak storyline. The ending in Signs was beyond lame and the twist in The Village was obvious about 20 minutes into the film. Unbreakable also had a silly ending. Lady in the Water was just a trainwreck though.

The Village. :lol It seemed like everyone had that one figured out within 30 minutes.

Lady def. takes the award for worst overall though. Glad I didn't pay to see it in theaters.

I 100% agree. It was an alright movie up until Peter started giving ladies the gun fingers and doing pelvic thrusts. After that everything went to shit. Don't even get me started on the jazz club dance scene.

Sideways

expected something really special after reading reviews, but found it to be merely average. maybe like Road Trip for the over 40's

I fucking hated Sideways. Never got the hype around that movie, just seemed pretentious to me.

yep, totally agree. i expected some laugh out loud moments, but in the end found it to be quite dark, depressing and all in all, as you said, quite pretentious

I can't think of one just yet, but I agree with The Village & Lady in the Water, I hated them both. I didn't even finish Lady in the Water.

Agreed.
As soon as those mini imaginary Jack Sparrows popped up on Jack's shoulders, I was just unable to like the movie.

Wow, I totally loved Sideways...Spider-man 3 and Transformers I thought were both good. And the Village and Lady are my two fav M Night movies.

I kid you not...

I went to that movie solely for Keef.

I liked Sideways a lot too. But spider man 3 was a highlight reel. it went absolutely nowhere. I was expecting too much from Transformers. But it didn't meet those expectations which probably ruined it for me. I really like the beginning and somewhat of the middle, but it totally went off the deep end. the action sequences were good. but the movie just wasn't good.

I liked Pirates 3 - I thought it was a whole lot better than the second one.
But then again, who can complain when there's multiple Johnny Depps to look at?
