i must admit, i am not against once in a while getting all gangsta' and listening to a bit of kick-ass hip-hop, or R'n'B...though the genre is shite at the moment with all the 50 cents out there thinking that the amount of times you've been shot is a mark of quality. its not, its probably coz hes a dick.
has anyone heard NWA's 'Straight Outta Compton'? that was released at a time when that sort of music was dagerous and probably did have a sort of shock factor. If anyone's interested download the track 'Gangsta, Gangsta'.
anyway, anyone else here partial to this type of thing?

I'm more into what I think is known as "backpack hip-hop" like Common, MF Doom/Madvillain, and Black Star, but I do love the first Wu-Tang Clan album.

Dead Prez is the best rap duo out there at the moment.

Let's Get Free was the album of the decade.

I used to love R&B as a kid, the really bad stuff, Tevin Campbell, Immature, New Edition, Boys 2 Men, Monica, Mary J, on and on. Oh it was lame, truth to told I still like a few songs and some have survived to the iPod, stress few. What got me off it was the repeation, everyone samples the same stuff, R&B regurates itself every few years or less it seems or sounds.

I think Kanye's a better producer than he is a rapper.
I used to listen to all that old skool stuff too. Father MC, Young MC, Monie Love, Gangstarr, Masta Ace, Pharcyde and others. I really like Mos Def, The Roots, Roots Manuva, Wu Tang, Missy Elliott and Talib Kweli. And sometimes Common.
You guys need to listen to an album called The Minstrel Show by Little Brother. They're out of North Carolina, so....you know, they can't really be bad.

I adore Outkast. I feel like they're a whole other beast spawned from hip hop and R & B. The Love Below is still one of my favorite albums of recent years and I don't expect that to change.
