I hate the term Black Friday, but whatever. Did anyone go out this morning???

I hit the stores at 6am, couldn't be crazy like all the women. I talked to my Mom and she was up a 2:30 and standing in a line at 3:30 with all my aunts...They are nuts.

So, anyone else as brave as she???

No way. Madness.

Nope, not me. In line at 2:30 am? Yikes. 6 am is bad enough. If I have a choice between my nice cozy bed and fighting my way through a bunch of crazy shoppers, I'll choose my bed every time.

:upyours My sentiments exactly. I'm not much of a shopper on normal days.....braving the crowd today is nightmare-inducing. :lol

Same here. I shudder at the thought of it. I'm not much of a shopper on normal days either. It'd have to be something exceptional to get me out there - like free iPods or widescreen TV's. :lol

I'll pay the extra $$$ to not have to deal with crowds.

I have to work helping all of those crazy people.:downyours

We had 100+ people waiting to get in when I started at 5 a.m.

Where do you work?

OfficeMax

I work off-hours stock, but on days like Black Friday I have to work when the store is open as well.

I had to go to Wal-Mart today (my nose pad on my glasses broke & my eye doctor wasn't open, so I went to their vision center). I was dreading the thought of going, but it was actually less busy then on a normal day, which I found odd.

Wal-Mart makes me rage any day of the year. My streak is at about 5 years.

Me too. It never fails, if I go there, I end up leaving in a terrible mood.

I consider myself fairly tough, but I'm no match for a 100 pound woman running for some lame ass toy that is to be recalled a couple weeks after Christmas. I stay home.

I'll drive people there, but I'll bring a book because I stay in the car.

Wal Mart is alright in my book. Where else can you get fried chicken and DVDs at 3 in the morning?

Why are all the shops so busy on "Black Friday"?

The day after Thanksgiving starts the Christmas shopping season in the states. Tons of big sales on that day. A lot of people get off work as well.

I went to pick up my new bike at my neighborhood bike shop. The dude who worked there was up at since 4:30, went shopping, then came to work at 11.

"What did you buy?"
"Nothing"

Wow.

That sounds like our Boxing Day sales. Starting on Dec 26, everybody has their post-Christmas clearances.
Every year, people get trampled in the crowds. I never find anything I want any way, so I stay away from shopping centres.

I've never found anything I really want in those types of sales either. I think sometimes people get suckered into buying things because it's cheap too. We have a big after Christmas sales day in the states too, as you might have guessed. :rolleyes

I tell you, I went early and I got a Samsung 22" Widescreen moniter that is amazing, I actually bought one for me, and the other for my ma for XMas. They were 199.99 and retail had them originally at 375.99, so for that saving, I will deal, maybe even kick an anger shopper...

My sister used to work for Wal-Mart. She used to always tell me it was like being in a cult. Apparently they have some shit they chant in the back. Weird.

ditto. And what is it about the smell? I've been in Wal-mart stores from Texas to Minnesota and various places in between. They all have "the smell".

Last week, I saw a magazine article about wacky weddings. 2 Wal-mart employees married each other... and had their wedding ceremony in their Wal-mart store amongst their "family".

All I know about Walmart is that it was the store in Bowling for Columbine that Michael Moore hassled for selling guns and ammo. I still find it incredible that a supermarket sells guns.

FrigidRoses

That was K-Mart actually. This is America, you can buy guns anywhere. :lol

What's up with all the Wal-Mart hate? It's really not that bad. It's a great place to people watch if nothing else.

It is horrible company that is too big. I hate Asada and the way they work by making small businesses going bust. I much prefer going to small shops where the owners know you.

Nope, pretty sure it was Walmart. He took two Columbine survivors to a Walmart store and pointed out that the bullets still lodged in their bodies could be purchased inside.

I don't really remember which it was in the movie, it's been awhile since I've seen it. But, I don't know how much it really matters, you can buy guns & bullets at both of them, ridiculously enough.

FrigidRoses

No it was K-Mart, I checked Wikipedia. :D

Sydneyfan

I just checked as well - and he did take the two Columbines survivors to K Mart. But he also bought ammo at a Walmart in Canada (supposedly without having to produce ID), so that's where I was getting Walmart from I guess.

FrigidRoses

Yah you're right. He lead a campaign after the film against Wal-Mart carrying ammo but it didn't do much good.

The thing that pisses me off about Wal-Mart is their no parental advisory CDs but I can buy The Devils Rejects & Texas Chainsaw Massacre there. Doesn't make much sense.
