Sorry for the rant, but this has been my cause this year. [for US residents at least]

So, if you haven't heard or seen, every year The Salvation Army does what they call a 'Angel Giving Tree' where I live, it is at the local Mall and at out Salvation Army office, other places I don't know. But anyway, it is a XMas tree with strips of paper hanging from it with: Age, Sex and Gift Preference on it. These are for kids who otherwise won't get a XMas gift, for various reasons, and it really is a great cause, and best of all, it does stay -semi-local.

Now, last year I did 2 kids, but this year I did 3 because I am working a little more this year. It really is not that expensive, give what you can. For example, my cards said:

Age: 11 / Sex: F / Gift Request: Anything Bratz and Hanna Montana

A: 16 / Sex: F / GP: CDs [Various Country] and MP3 Player

A: 15 / S: F / CD Boombox and Make Up

So, yesterday I went out early to get some deals...all and all I got:

Bratz Dolls [9.99] and Hannah Montana CD and DVD [22.99]

Kenny Chesney CD [7.99] and MP3 Player, 2GB [19.99]

CD Boombox [18.99] and Makeup [14.99]

Now, I put a 30 -35 buck cap on myself per kids, but you can spend whatever, and they always take Gift Certificates.

So, I spend under 100 bucks and gave 3 kids a Xmas. It also just makes you feel good.

Thanks for letting my rant, but seriously, everyone can do at least one.

That is really sweet of you to do, I love it. :)

A few years ago I did something local where we took kids and let them pick out winter coats/scarves/mittens and bought them. I loved doing that.

Great cause, sipowicz, and very sweet of you to take part. I try and do something like this every year too. Thanks for the link. :upyours

Every year, I buy gifts for some intellectually disabled adults that live in a nearby group home/nursing facility. The staff let you know what they would like - last year it was a lava lamp for their therapy room and some T shirts.
Buying gifts for strangers at Christmas is a great idea and it makes you feel good.

sipowicz - what a lovely idea - that's really kind and generous. If I see anything similar here I'll participate - it's such a nice idea and it makes you feel good as well because you're making other people feel good.
