Cat Power has announced dates for her first national tour of Australia in five years, with a backing band that includes the Dirty Three's Jim White.

Power, aka, Chan Marshall, will follow the 19 January release of her new album Jukebox with the March tour taking in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.

She will be backed by the Dirty Delta Blues band, featuring drummer Jim White (Dirty Three), keyboard player Greg Foreman (Delta 72) and guitarist Judah Bauer (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion).

Tour tickets go on sale on 21 January.

Fri 7 March - Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns
Sat 8 - The Tivoli, Brisbane
Sun 9 - Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Mon 10 - The Gov, Adeliade
Wed 12 - Theatre Royal, Castlemaine
Thu 13 - The Forum, Melbourne

After hearing those terrible stories about one of her previous tours here, I'm not sure whether to get tickets or not :\

I haven't seen her myself, but how expensive are they? From what I understand it's a bit like Ryan, on good nights it's REALLY good, but bad nights are really bad. If they aren't too much I'd give it a shot.

I couldn't find any info on ticket prices.
I've already spent way too much money on concerts though, so I'm going to pass on Chan and go see Andrew Bird again instead :D

i saw this in the local street press.

i'm excited.

i don't really mind if she's volatile (ha). i've seen her before and she was wonderful, though the sound was a bit rubbish from where i was.

i love cat power. yay!!
