Not too familiar with the Cowboy Junkies, or what the deal is with this "revisited" album. I guess they just decided to re-record it as an experiment and see what they could get out of it. But Ryan's on it...

The Trinity Session was released in 1987. It was the second Cowboy Junkies album (they were an independent band from Toronto at the time). It was recorded in a church in downtown Toronto, with one microphone, for about $100. It became a huge international hit.
The band went back to the same church, with Ryan, Natalie Merchant and Vic Chesnutt, in November 2006 and re-did the album.
Ryan has stated in interviews that Trinity Session had a major influence on him wanting to become a singer-songwriter.
He will be appearing with the band in Toronto at Massey Hall on February 23rd.

The revisited session is from November 2006 I believe but released in 2007 on DVD and CD. It's very good. Ryan is very professional on it. I'm not a great fan of the Cowboy Junkies but it is excellent.
