I know there are a few songwriters here so this might interest you. ;)

The concept is simple - write 14 songs in 29 days (leap year).

I've taken part the last couple of years - it's really good fun and helps you grow as a songwriter. :)

id like to take part in that. me and my mate did something similar before xmas and then we gave each other the songs we'd written as xmas presants.

couple of questions, is there a prize for this or any sort of incentive? will the best songs be put on the website or what?

The best of the best gets put on a CD. But the incentive is really to write 14 songs in a relatively short amount of time. :)

thats a pretty tricky task but im up for it, though id say in that time period, 10 or 11 of my songs will be atrocious.
did RA write most of RnR in 2 weeks?

also, say if i have an idea for a song, but have not yet put it down on paper yet, would that count as a new song?

Yep, it counts. Technically all that's needed to qualify for a song is a song title. :)

I've been a tad sneaky and put up 2 songs from late Jan, but it's all good. :P

Sounds like a good idea.

I'll have a go at it.

I could definitely write lyrics for 14 songs in a month. Lord knows I have so many lyrics I'll probably never use.

My writing's been so slow for the past year, I think I'm going to try this. Most of them are sure to be awful as I'm not good at forcing things, but it might at least give my inspiration a kick.

Post links to your profile if you want. I'm really interested to see what you're all up to. :)

I also really dug Dominic Gray. He (they?) plays this sort of unhinged, lo-fi acoustic driven rock. The two songs (forgive me, Dominic) initially sound like the bedroom ravings of a madman into his boombox, but then patterns emerge.

The lyrics are descriptive, weird, great, and very passionately delivered. Harmonicas fade in and out. Is that a piano?

In other places, a small, ragged choir repeats a chorus. Just totally bizarre and unexpected.

The songs are sometimes challenging to listen to (at one point he seems to laugh at his own unhinged delivery), and it won't appeal to everybody. But it's a great example of the envelope-pushing music that can be found in a community like this.
