I was hoping for maybe a St. Cloud or Duluth date, but no luck.:(

Josh's a tour fool, though. You know he'll be back through. :)

I saw Josh and his band play with the Boston Symphony Orchestra tonight. It was fantastic. Josh was smiley and grateful and cute as ever, and he seemed truly humbled to be playing with the BSO and at Boston Symphony Hall. Repeatedly mentioned how he'd lived in Boston and had so many great memories here.

Josh's music fit beautifully with the orchestra and vice versa, there was a good variety of songs, he even rocked out a few electric and it still sounded fabulous with the orchestra. "Kathleen" was absolutely transcendent... and not just because that's my name, I swear. That song always has great energy and is the audience favorite, but Josh and the band, together with the full orchestra and the energy in symphony hall during that song... sublime. Seriously.

The show ran about 1:20. Here's the setlist I took down:

Idaho
Best for the Best
Other Side
Rumors
Girl in the War
Wolves
Monster Ballads
Thin Blue Flame (Josh solo w/ violin) --> got a standing ovation
The Temptation of Adam
To the Dogs or Whoever
Right Moves

* two poems read by former US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky: The Want Bone and The Wave, with the orchestra playing "Edge of the World" as he read *

Bone of Song
Kathleen

Encore:
Wildfires
Empty Hearts

It was really cute, towards the end of "Empty Hearts" he got the whole crowd clapping and invited us to sing by saying "if you've ever wanted to sing at symphony hall, now's your chance." And I read on the Josh Ritter board that Natalie Merchant was in the audience. And I got a rad show poster with the Titanic on it. The End.

I <3 him because he did three songs that night mention Katie or Kathleen (my name), including this one.

Since I'm posting anyways, here's the 3 photos I got that night. It was mother-daughter date night :)
