Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty will help young heroin addicts in a new TV show.
The troubled singer, who is battling his own addiction to the class A drug, plans to visit two of northern England’s toughest housing estates and use music to encourage them to get straight.

Doherty will live with families on Manchester’s Langley Estate and work with a young offenders’ group in Sheffield’s Manor Park in a series of music-based therapy sessions.

The 28-year-old musician’s experiences will be filmed for a Channel 4 show, which is due to be aired later this year.

A source said: "Pete really hopes to be able to use his own experiences to help these youths. Hopefully they will be inspired by his visit."

The star’s drug problems have been well documented.

He was pictured last week with suspicious white powder on his nose and blood coming out of one of his nostrils.

Last November, Pete was filmed snorting what appeared to be cocaine just days after vowing to return to rehab. He had agreed to enter a facility after being filmed injecting heroin at his Wiltshire home.

Doherty has previously claimed he dreams of using drugs again and was "mourning for an armful".

Seems like Pete is on a very slow road to recovery at the moment. This sounds like something he'd do, so good luck to him.

Reform the Libertines!

Yeah, I think it's pretty easy to be cynical about Pete, given his past track record. But maybe he's really trying to get himself together this time. And if he inspires a few kids to starighten up, that would be terrific.

i know doing coke isnt much better or healthier than heroin, but at least he's bringing himself off it slowly (if the reports are true). people always seem to just think that pete is just another junkie rocker with a model girlfriend, but he's actually a very inteligent man who just got way too involved with stuff he didnt really understand.

dunno if your a Libs fan, but he's writing with Carl Barat again which is another great sign. coz i know carl wouldnt work with him if he was in a state

I have Up The Bracket and really enjoy it, great album . But that's as far as I've gotten. I never got into Babyshambles.

nah, both Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles are not even close to the Libertines. you should get the 2nd libertines album too, its arguably just as good as UTB

It's one of those albums I'm always meaning to listen to and never do. I should really make an attempt soon. :upyours

err...might be easier for Pete to help the kiddies out if he wasn't in jail..

Doherty sent to jail for 14 weeks
by ANDREI HARMSWORTH - Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Troubled Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was finally sent to jail today for breaking his probation order.

He was taken from West London Magistrates' Court and locked up for 14 weeks following a 30 minute hearing this afternoon.

Doherty was jailed for 'his breach of time keeping, non compliance of his order and using different drugs', a spokesperson from the court confirmed.

Back in October, Judge Davinder Lachar cleared Doherty from the remainder of a drug control order but handed him his suspended jail sentence for drug and motoring offences.

The 29-year-old was given a four-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years.

On that occasion he handed an 18-month supervision order and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order.

Lachar ordered he pay a £400 fine for an driving without insurance and a £75 fine for having no MOT certificate.

Commenting on his sentence, an EMI spokesman said: 'Unfortunately Peter has had to postpone his show at the Royal Albert Hall on April 26th.

'The show is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced.

'Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and to all those concerned.'

yeah, I think Pete just wants a pay check.
It wasn't long ago a reporter was asking him about going to Amy Winehouse's house all the time & asked if he was helping her with her recovery and his response was something along the lines of laughing and asking if they were serious.
