They're dropping like flies.

From the editor:

My apologies for the mass email, but I wanted to let you know about Harp's current situation. It's with a really heavy heart that I even have to write this. As many of you know, our cash flow had slowed recently. Due to various factors, including the current newsstand magazine slump, the majority shareholders of Guthrie Inc. Harp's parent company, have decided to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy effective next week.

It's been an honor to work with all of you—and I have learned much in the process. I couldn't have done this magazine without you. Please let me know if there's anything I can do for you. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to get in touch with me at this email address.

Maybe I'll see you in the trenches again someday.

Are you fucking kidding me?! First No Depression, now Harp? This is getting depressing. As someone who's been going to school in hopes of starting a career in music journalism, this does not bode well.

That is very sad, Harp is a wonderful magazine. I'll treasure the issues I have. You know, it reminds you that unless you're working for solid giants like Rolling Stone or Q, you could be subject to the problems and uncertainties of say, a small indie business. My brother was working for a small entertainment paper and though it's stable, it's a lot of blood, sweat and tears for sometimes minimal pay-off.

TBY attracts the cream of the posting crop. As journalists, it's important that we say nice thing about ourselves, because we all know nobody else ever will. :P

fuckin ay
i'm probably the last to read this, but it's saddening as fuck to have just read this. this is one of the few magazines i thoroughly enjoyed reading from front to cover, and one of the rare ones who could put tom waits, mars volta, wilco, ryan and other amazing artists that are ignored elsewhere.
i guess that just leaves me with Paste...

It's so sad they have to close down, I've been subscribing to Harp for the last couple of years and it's a great magazine.
