if this record i am listening to now, by Midlake were about something, it would be amazing. but in fact, it is about an actual historical event or events, which is fine, and very clever, and actually very very charming, but you know, all those melodies, all those beautiful moments, i so wish they were about something so singular and defined, like what it is like to miss having good company. or the time you saw someone cry because they found their necklace in at Macy’s on a Saturday, in the hustle of overlarge jackets and trampling feet, and in the panic, in the shuffle, they found it, they found it and those tears happened upon their face, and people just stopped for a second, and you know, paused and remembered what it meant to really love something, despite the inevitable drift of time, and the eventual losses everyone will face.
or how no matter where you are, there will always be a rouge shoe on the street, and reason to pause and wonder how that happened and what kind of hurry must have been evoked…..like maybe *someone chased that taxi down and said “….don’t go….just don’t go…”
i am going to listen to it again anyway….i am covered head to Asics in dust and furniture polish.
hell i even a screwdriver in my back pocket and managed to repair TWO count em’ things in my little soft lit tomb…….
