Re: What Are You Reading Now?

Story of O is an erotic novel published in 1954 about sadomasochism by French author Anne Desclos under the pen name Pauline Réage. Desclos did not reveal herself to be the author until four years before her death, forty years after its initial publication. Desclos said that she had written the novel as a series of love letters to her lover Jean Paulhan who admired the work of the Marquis de Sade.

Published in French, by Jean-Jacques Pauvert, éditeur, it is a story of female submission about a beautiful Parisian fashion photographer, O, who is blindfolded, chained, whipped, branded, pierced, made to wear a mask, and taught to be constantly available for oral, vaginal, and anal intercourse.

O's lover, René, brings her to the château of Roissy, where she is trained to serve the men of an élite group. After that, O moves through a series of increasingly harsh masters, from René to Sir Stephen to the Commander. At the climax, O appears as a slave, nude but for an owl-like mask, before a large party of guests.

In America it's a simple plain white paperback with 'The Story Of O' written across the front. I like this cover better though.

I've been on a Jeffery Deaver & Michael Connelly kick lately. I just finished the 12th Card & I'm getting ready to start The Concrete Blonde. My sister has been telling me to read it for about 6 years now, so I finally went and bought it.

Wiiliam Gibson - Spook Country. The latest book from the guy who coined the term cyberspace. It's great. So good, that as soon as I finished it, I felt compelled to read it again.

They're okay. Haven't really started with the second one because of decided to re-read the last Harry Potter instead. But if you enjoy crime thrtillers you'll probably like them, apparently there are like 17 books in the series or something.

Thanks Q. I do like crime thrillers and I've seen those books a few times at a used bookshop near me. Maybe I'll pick one up.

I know my second time through it! I love Vonnegut so much, it's a shame he had to go.

The Outsiders. :)

Totally by chance. We had opened up a box of old books my wife had when she was in highschool, and amongst the Harlequin Romances and Judy Blumes (:) ) there it was... I just started flipping through it, thinking "Why haven't I read this before?" and then BOOM I was into it!

Probably not because I'm such a crap reader. I didn't even realise Bateman was in the taxi at the start until he began speaking!
