Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
With all comments about 1989 aside, on a clean slate who's releasing the better album?
|
Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Love them both. I anticipate both albums will be great.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Love both as well, but I voted FJM. I like Prisoner but I have higher expectations for Pure Comedy.

Who wins in a cage fight?

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Did Pure Comedy leak yet?
I'll withhold judgement until I hear both. FJM's last 2 albums have been better than RA's last 2 though. TBH, its apples and oranges in terms of songwriting though. |
Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
I'm a huge Ryan Adams but the songs that Father John Misty has released have been far more superior in my opinion.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Love both artists and hard to compare for me.
Whys the FJM vinyl so expensive?! |

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Wouldn't even begin to know how to vote on this considering I've only heard a few tracks from either. RA and FJM are pretty radically different songwriters/performers at this point though, so I assume a lot of it would depend on my mood for the day.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
FJM is a douche.
The guy acts like he's some innovative artist, then releases some soft ass honey bear bs. Also, google image him. What a pretentious face. |
Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
I Love You, Honeybear is actually a phenomenal album.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
We're getting a lot of useful, unbiased opinions here.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
I don't know I think "innovative" thing is irrelevant. I don't think he acts all that different than any other popular artist. They all have their quirks.
He makes records and then tours to support the records. He has the financial backing of a major record label and he puts on a show that draws well in theatres. His songs are about drugs, sex, life, religion, etc. Nothing that hasn't been covered before. He's teamed up with one of the best producers in the country and has surrounded himself with world class musicians. |

I think it's soft as hell and insincere. |
Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Give fear fun a shot. It's better than Honeybear.

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
From what I've heard of new FJM album and new Strand of Oaks out same day as Prisoner - I'd take Strand of Oaks any day.

So?

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Both could have been better :lol

Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
Tillman was a better songwriter before he got all FJM. He's literally a clown now.

Guy is a wanker.

I think Pure Comedy was a strong title track. The problem is every other song is just a watered down version of that. The overall theme "each other is all we've got" is on point, but how many times on one record can you say the exact same thing before it's exhausting? And it's bizarre all the love he's getting. Blogs saying this is his best work. it isn't. Not even close, really. Very interesting artist, but this FJM thing started much better than it's ending. I'm hoping he does one more record under this moniker then branches off onto something else. He's making boatloads of cash, so it'll probably be drawn out. |
Re: Ryan Adams vs Father John Misty
I probably like Pure Comedy a bit more, but I don't understand why we are comparing them. Because FJM got all FJM about 1989?
