Re: Horror Film Discussion & Recommendations

I'm hoping to see Hereditary on Sunday. I did a little background reading on the film and the director last night and found out that an earlier, low-budget short film he made called The Strange Thing About The Johnsons had made quite an impact on the internet a few years back.

Having watched it, I can see why. It's all sorts of fucked up. And blackly, squirmingly funny in a way that reminds me a little of Yorgos Lanthimos films.

Re: Horror Film Discussion & Recommendations

Saw Hereditary and was pretty impressed. Some really creative scenes and clever direction, along with plenty of nods to other genre classics. The only negative for me was..

Spoiler:
the ending. I loved the sheer over-the-topness of it, but I felt the film was stronger when the whole possession angle was ambiguous and it could be read as a metaphor for fear of inherited mental illness. Obviously the director was playing with both concepts - metaphor and actual demonic scary stuff - but I just felt it lost a little power by spelling out a conclusion.

Thinking of starting Channel Zero. Is it worth my time?
