Re: Documentary Recommendations

Tower was incredible.

It mixed news footage (?), new interviews and animation of the 1966 UT mass shooting in Austin so well. It also explores some other human elements that never really get talked about during a mass shooting.

Re: Documentary Recommendations

David Stratton is one of Australia's best known and respected film critics. This new doco - featuring a star-studded supporting cast - should be of interest to fans of Australian cinema, and perhaps fans of cinema in general.

I watched Glen Campbell's I'll Be Me doc on Netflix a few days ago. A touching experience. Guy was a trooper.

I'm afraid to watch that just because my father is getting pretty far along with Alzheimer's.

Hearing amazing things about I Am Not Your Negro. It's not out to buy until June though. Kinda BS. Oscar films should be available on Demand before the ceremony.

I will definitely watch this. Watching At the Movies every week was such an integral part of my time in Australia.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

My late mom suffered memory loss after a series of strokes, but I'm sure it's not quite the same thing. She knew who I was, but I'm not sure how much of the specific details she could remember.

Re: Documentary Recommendations

I've been binging the shit out of docs. Mostly Herzog. Lessons of Darkness and Happy People are both definitely seeing by him. All his docs are good but those two stand out of the bunch I watched.

Blackfish was really interesting, the doc about the killer killer whale lol

Also just got back from I am not your negro which was fucking great and should be mandatory viewing for everyone in America.

Re: Documentary Recommendations

This may be worth a separate thread at some point, but I attended the premiere of the Judd Apatow's "May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers"

Definitely enjoyable. HBO has the rights, though I don't see a date yet.

Judd and the band were there to do Q&A and perform a song. Pretty cool, think you'll all like it.

Extremely keen to watch this. Big Louis Theroux fan.
I was just listening to his episode of WTF and he explained how despite the fact that he and Justin Theroux are cousins, they pronounce their surnames differently. Louis sticks to the French pronunciation of the-ROO and Justin pronounces his as the-ROW.

Me too. Love Louis. The way he always manages to humanise his subjects - even the most loathsome white supremacists, pedophiles, whatever - is quite remarkable. Even Louis might have his work cut out for him with the upper echelons of Scientology though, lol.
