He also shot the library talk RA did with MLP. he even showed me a bunch of photos that aren't in that gallery - like parker posey w/ryan and some dog.

spent about 20 minutes chatting with me about the whole thing. great dude. then i bought 2 of the 7" vinyls, and one of the autographed posters of the exhibition.

great day

Re: Gallery Up Online

i originally thought ryans art was a bit of a pile of drivel but i think ive changed my mind a bit after seeing more than 5 pieces. surprise.
some of these really connect with me. especially the first one and the one that seems to be a build up of paper with a portrait of a woman with orange shadow.

Re: Gallery Up Online

I really like the painting of the two outlined figures with the orange splash background, it's simple yet provocative. Some of his stuff can get a little busy for my taste.

Also really like the four piece city scape just above treeline.

Re: Gallery Up Online

I do realize that seriously considering a pop star's art is cheating and we're skipping loads of artists that spend years and years of training and defining their voice...

Ryan's good though....

Re: Gallery Up Online

ronnie wood, joseph arthur, james franco, billy childish, dan melchior are all semifamous/famous people off the top of my head who also paint, a few better than ryan and some about the same.

Re: Gallery Up Online

Right on!

Just spent about 20 minutes or so checking out the gallery today. Being someone that really enjoys his music and doesn't really give a crap about anything else (personal life, antics, internet BS) I had a blast. Picked up that 45 with Oblivion and People Need Sunlight, which I can't wait to get home (seattle) to check out. Had a blast seeing all of his art in person while a bunch of his older and newer music played in the background. Chatted with the gal working at the gallery about RA and how much work he produced in such a short amount of time. She was impressed by his work ethic/output of "quality" work. All in all, it was really cool to experience the gallery in person and take in all his work. Some I liked, some I didn't but the overall gallery was a treat to check out in person.

Re: Gallery Up Online

I went to the gallery as well yesterday (made a pilgrimage from DC). I enjoyed the paintings as well and snapped a few pictures before being told they weren't allowed. I'll see if I can figure out how to put them here. I talked to the guy about Ryan for a bit and he said that Ryan made a bunch of CD's to be played during the opening.

also bought the pink Pax-Am record even though I don't have a turntable. I just put it on display in my apartment- good enough. Wish I could hear the songs though.
