I think that taking a torch to Tony Abbott's face would be very therapeutic for me right now.

You mightn't have to bother, Jacqui Lambie is doing a pretty good job of hurting him at the moment.

Saddened to read of the passing of Stella Young today, aged just 32. A very funny comedian, insightful writer and outstanding disability advocate.

Her "I'm Not Your Inspiration" speech was simply superb.

Yes, very saddened by this as well.

I love this photo, taken yesterday at the Martin Place shrine. The boy is a relative of Tori Johnson, the gentleman is an Islamic cleric.

Nice work Australia.

I guess maybe he didn't want to admit he just got legless and someone nicked his wallet while he was passed out. But making up a whole elaborate story about getting roofied and kidnapped was never going to end well for him. Silly Robert.

After all, to not admit that you got legless is unAustralian.

Indeed. After all, this is a country who had a Prime Minister who also held the world speed drinking record. (Hawkie, who else, hah) And another PM who became even more popular after admitting he got shit-faced and went to a strip show in New York. Nowhere is the drunken idiot more loved than Oz.

Are you doing anything special today shell? Will is in Japan and its raining in Sydney, so I'm anticipating a whole day of doing nothing really.

I got needles in my back and probably looked like an echidna (see WAYTA thread).

Beyond that, watched a bit of tennis and had a really quiet day yesterday.
Looking forward to the Kyrgios/Murray match tonight.

This guy! Seriously!

Quote:
Australian golfer Robert Allenby ran up a $US3400 ($4324) bar tab at a Honolulu strip club on the night he claims he was bashed, robbed and abducted, according to a US report.

Detectives from the Honolulu Police Department continue to investigate what happened to the 43-year-old golfer on the evening of January 16.

The Golf Channel in the US reported that it had interviewed multiple witnesses and retraced Allenby's steps after he had dinner with friends at the Amuse Wine Bar in downtown Honolulu.

The network claims that, during the night, Allenby went to Club Femme Nu, described as an adult entertainment club wedged between a tattoo parlour and a Korean restaurant.

Allenby was there until about midnight with "a group of friends" and ran up a $US3400 bar tab, according to the network, which cited multiple sources.

That report comes after a homeless man, Chris Khamis, told the Honolulu Star Advertiser that he found Allenby on the street near the Amuse Wine Bar, when Allenby allegedly told him he had been drugged at a strip club where he had gone to get some "action".

The Golf Channel has compiled a timeline of Allenby's alleged movements on the night in question.

The channel claims that Allenby was sitting at his table at the Amuse Wine Bar when he was approached by two men and a woman, an encounter that was recorded on CCTV camera.

Allenby paid his bill with his American Express card and left the bar with the three unknown people at 11.06pm, the channel claims, citing CCTV footage.

Minutes later, an unknown man bought two bottles of tequila with one of the Allenby's credit cards at a nearby liquor store. The amount of fraudulent purchases has since risen to more than $US20,000, Allenby said.

About 11.30pm, two homeless men, Mr Khamis and Toa Caili, said they found Allenby passed out on the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Piikoi Street, across the road from the Amuse Wine Bar.

The men claimed Allenby's face was not injured at the time but was disorientated and accused them of robbing him, so they left him on the corner. They encountered him again in the same area about two hours later, the men claimed, according to the Golf Channel.

In between those sightings, Allenby allegedly went to the Club Femme Nu strip club, which is about one kilometre from the Amuse Wine Bar, the channel claims.

At 1.15am, the two homeless men who said the had encountered Allenby earlier in the night said they again found him passed out on the road, not far from where they had found him about two hours earlier.

Mr Khamis alleges that Allenby injured his face when he fell face-first onto a rock, rather than being abducted and bashed.

With the help of a homeless woman, Charade Keane and another passer-by, Allenby got into a taxi and returned to his hotel where he notified police, the channel reported.

During the night Allenby was robbed of most but not all of his credit cards, about $US800 in cash and his phone.

The Golf Channel said it had contacted Allenby for comment, but he did not immediately return the call.

Allenby may shed more light on the incident when he holds a scheduled press conference on Tuesday in Phoenix, Arizona, the site of the next PGA Tour event.

The Honolulu Police Department has released a statement saying detectives are continuing their investigation into second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card. The statement makes no mention of a a possible kidnapping or assault.

I'm pretty sure Allenby is married with kids, which is probably why he wasn't very keen to admit he'd been at a strip club. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the "group of friends" he was entertaining with his cash were attractive young ladies either.

I still don't get why he didn't just say he had a couple too many wines at the bar, slipped walking back to his hotel, knocked himself out and got robbed while he was unconscious. All the drama he created with his fibs just attracted more investigation of his story.

Re: The Australian/NZ Chat Thread

Welp, I did not see that Qld election result coming. I thought Newman would probably lose his seat, but that the Libs would still hold government with a reduced majority. At the moment, it looks like Labor might win outright, although there are still a handful of seats in doubt. Amazing.

The result must also put more pressure on Abbott's leadership. Either Turnbull or Bishop must be looking like attractive options to a lot of Libs right now.
