Best Albums Of 2017, So Far...

Very curious to get a feel for what everyone has been digging this year. For me, I'm going with:

Best:

1. Nightmare Logic - Power Trip
2. Why Love Now - Pissed Jeans
3. Worthless Soul - Sievehead
4. Unholy Rush - Mindsnare
5. Hustle Up Starlings - Matthew Ryan
6. Impermanence - Peter Silberman

Nothing else has really hit home fully for me. The above albums, to me, are perfect. No shit songs, and they flow like a real album should.

Still lots to come, though...

Re: Best Albums Of 2017, So Far...

I need to listen to more from this year but

Prisoner, more scared of you than you are of me, salutations are all top 5

I'm assuming isbell's will be once I get a chance to listen to it as a whole.

Re: Best Albums Of 2017, So Far...

Ryan Adams - Prisoner / Prisoner B Sides
Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
Tennis - Yours Conditionally

That's it, really.

I've been listening to the latest Slowdive & Chastity Belt some too, but not enough that I really have an opinion yet. Bob Dylan - Triplicate - Third Disc is also thee album to do dishes to at 11 on a Tuesday night.

I'm excited to hear the new War On Drugs, Alvvays, and the supposed unreleased Neil Young album that is coming. I've enjoyed what I've heard of the new Bully material, so that will be a fun one as well.

Nothing has come remotely close to Prisoner for me yet. Pure Comedy took awhile for me to come around and actually listen to it... but it is really, really good (and has the ability to really bum me out. Why exactly? Not quite sure). I've got a feeling that A Deeper Understanding will be a very close second in my heart to Prisoner by the end of the year.

Re: Best Albums Of 2017, So Far...

So far, my favourite album this year has been Notes Of Blue by Son Volt. Prisoner is a close second for me. I have also been enjoying In Spades by Afghan Whigs, Gargoyle by Mark Lanegan and oddly enough, West Coast Town by Chris Shiflett. I'm really looking forward to the new Jason Isbell record. What I've heard so far has been incredible!

Re: Best Albums Of 2017, So Far...

In past years I've had pretty expansive 'Best Of' lists. This year I want to keep it real centered and minimal (still so many already):

Leif Vollebekk - Twin Solitude
Beach Fossils - Somersault
Thundercat - Drunk
Thunder Dreamer - Capture
Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
Fleet Foxes - Crack-Up
Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me
Toby Hay - The Gathering
Jon Moreland - Big Bad Luv
Jeff Tweedy - Together At Last

No problem. I just discovered the man this week. The first track, about a lazy fat house cat, is fantastic. Which album is his best?

I really enjoy this album but its hard to say its one of the best of the year, its basically tweedy playing Wilco songs acoustically without much reinterpretation

thats a great question! he has amassed so many under different names

are you familiar with red house painters? that was his band back in the day - very similar to american music club/mark eitzel - so id recommend checking them out also - eitzel helped kozelek get a record deal

red house painters albums to check out would be the first self titled aka rollercoaster and songs for a blue guitar

theres also sun kil moon - id recommend ghosts of the great highway - admiral fell promises and benji

im a huge fan of common as light and love are red valleys of blood - be warned: its a double album - two hrs worth of music and [to me] brilliantly inspired by hip hop - soooo good!

as far as kozeleks proper solo releases im a big fan of the early stuff with ac/dc and john denver covers - rock n roll singer and whats next to the moon

also - i was kidding but it turns out i was pretty close - thats his fourth album so far this yr!
