Re: Movie Recommendations

Jackie was incredible

Both in how it deals with trauma and how tightly focused the film is but also how masterfully it's made Pablo larrain going all malick on the biopic--great shit.

Alright, so I'm watching Sharknado 3...

I'm open to your critical assessments, allegories, conspiracy theories, etc.

All sorts of US political shit going on with attacks on DC, cameos by Michelle Bachman and Ann Coulter?! Fucked and funny....

Re: Movie Recommendations

Saw The Salesman yesterday. Liked it, didn't love it. The performances were all superb and I really enjoy the kind of Chekhovian emotional understatement vibe the director creates. Feels a little too stilted/stagey in parts though, although that's probably largely intentional, as he's interweaving his main storyline with the staging of the Miller play.

I actually thought it worked well for that exact reason. The undercurrent of both the play and the film tie together so well it's kinda of amazing.

I've been watching the rest of asghar farhadi filmography as I had only seen the last and the salesman.

A separation, the script is flawless and incredible. About elly is also really good, better than the salesman, it's almost like if bergman had directed and then there were none but there was was only one disappearance haha.

Watched fireworks Wednesday after I got out of work and wasn't nearly as impressed.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Love & Mercy was p good. Thought the script could've been tighter but definitely interesting especially if you like The Beach Boys

Re: Movie Recommendations

Randomly watched a Mexican sci-fi film called The Incident on Netflix yesterday. I really enjoyed it - it has this nightmarish quality that really gets under your skin. The "infinite loop" stuff has been done before I know, but I really liked this particular approach. And it's extra impressive given that the budget looks pretty small.
