My Gold was purchased when it finally came out a year or so after the record was released (back when United wasn't over worked and had better quality control). I've always been satisfied with mine, though I know later pressings of Gold sounded awful to people, so I'm keeping that in mind when listening. I think this new pressing sounds so quiet and static free that the music sounds so clear and crisp that it would be a nice improvement over the original. especially for $11. A bit of nerdery, the new pressing has a matte sleeve whereas my original was glossy. Still no inserts. Also no polylined sleeves which is pretty standard with pallas, so its weird.

As for Cold Roses, again, I was happy with my original. There is surface noise, but whatever, I've made due and been satisfied. From the onset, I was blown away by how good the new cut sounds. The record is dead quiet which makes the music pop. The original almost sounds murky compared to this cut. Its really crisp and clear. Lows are low and bold and the highs sound great and crisp. Its fantastic. As for some nerdery, its the same as the original. has the insert. Polylined sleeves. As for the outer sleeve its funny because its the opposite of Gold. My original is matte and this new one is glossy. The new one is embossed as well.

Overall, I think they are worth the pickup, especially for the prices.

cool man, thanks for the run down. i went through a bunch of copies of CR until i found a really good quiet OP, never imagining they would be repressed. so very tempted now.

edit: dorky vinyl note...very early copies of Gold have a vertical bar code on the rear top right, about a year after it was out the bar code went horizontal.

Interesting. Mine is the vertical one.

Ordered Gold. This record has been crying out for a decent press. I have the red and blue promo which I keep for collectors sake and a not very good sounding black.

My original Cold Roses sounds fine but I might be tempted to get the repress.

I could do with a new copy of 29, anyone know how the new cut sounds.

I have a red and a white Cardinology so I just don't need another copy.

I thought my original CR sounded fine too except for the surface noise, but I was shocked at how good the new pressing sounds.

Not only is Cardinology a poor pressing but it's a real pain to type on forums.

Going to have to get CR and 29 before prices go up.

when i FINALLY found a well pressed, centered clean copy of CR it sounds damn good, has that "floating voice" thing going on where the speakers just seem to disappear, but i'm going to pick up a copy of the new press for giggles. i'm kind of a sucker for first/original presses i have to admit.

Wish they'd also repress Rock N' Roll. Don't understand why they don't.

My 29 is indeed P USA, BG.

I've nothing to compare it to, but the quality is there alright.

Just got Cold Roses, Gold and 29 represses. They are fantastic quality and well worth doubling up if you already have the older versions. I couldn't hardly stand to listen to my original pressings. This is a real treat.

So how do you know where a record is pressed as I have these already?
I'm assuming if a shop is selling them (Amazon UK) then they will be these new Pallas pressings?

It's all in the deadwax. If it has CB (for Cold Roses/Gold) or BG (For 29) and P. USA scratched in the deadwax then it is the new pressings. If not, then the older pressings. I've noticed nothing on the outer covers to tell this except with my new 29 that has a sticker saying pressed at Pallas.

These are indeed an upgrade,CR,Gold and Cardinolgy are the ones I purchased.I need 29 and I am good, getting rid of my older pressings. One thing though,I had some surface issues on CR that played through fine but are unusual for a Pallas pressing,so how do we know these were in fact pressed there...I know some said 29 had a sticker on it but none of the ones I got did.

Re: Vinyl represses by Chris Bellman and pressed at Pallas

Not a guarantee that Amazon.co.uk have these yet. I would go for .Com first since a few have got them. Even then there could be old boxes on the warehouse shelves. I've ordered Gold from .Com to the UK but it could even depend on warehouse.

Am I right in thinking that for the new pressings:
Gold has a matt sleeve (you could slit a tiny discreet bit of the shrink to check)
Cold Roses has the embossed sleeve again like 1st presses.
29 has a silver Pallas sticker.

yes, all the "new" copies i've seen in the last few years (i think there was a repress like 2.5 years ago) have that little LH/audiophile sticker...

actually the early "first" embossed LH/Univeral copies did NOT have the sticker, that i'm sure of.
