Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds -Who Built the Moon?

probably not for most folks on here, but a triumph of an album imo. most tracks are vastly different than anything he's done before (thanks to producer David Holmes).

one of the standouts is this acoustic gem though:

also really enjoying this one:

Production is a bit fat, but this seems to be the album we have been waiting for since he announced that Androgynous Blah Blah record.

There’s a lot of Oasis project fans here.

I’ve steered clear for a long time, because I always found the brothers’ mix of arrogance and dysfunction to be repulsive.

I do like that acoustic track and will give this a shot.

Their arrogance is what makes them great.

For some fans, yes. Not for me... big turnoff. There were so many great and aspiring bands around during their heyday. Equally good performers and writers. Then you see these turds showing zero appreciation for each other or their peers. History proved me wrong, but I couldn’t deal.

yep, their songs wouldn’t have the sneer and passion if they didn’t fucking hate each other and love each other so damn much.

Re: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds -Who Built the Moon?

yea they both have shitty personalities, but id say Noel's songwriting is what made them great. George Martin called him the greatest songwriter of his generation and he's probably right. he has that same feeling for melody as Ryan, but where Ryan uses it to write 'little ditties' Noel (especially in his Oasis days) usually fleshes em out to bombastic tunes.

that acoustic track is nothing like the rest of the album though

Both Damon Albarn and Jarvis Cocker outclass Noel as songwriters, but nothing beats a concert shoulder to shoulder with a drunk Brit shouting Oasis songs together.

George Martin actually said that? I don't mind some early Oasis but if Noel wasn't allowed to use the words "sun" "star" & "shine" in his lyrics he'd have written about 2 songs in his entire life.

Liam seemed worse and Noel's songwriting, in hindsight, backs it up. I'll give it a listen. 20 years is probably long enough to hold a grudge.

Really good stuff. Have had it on repeat all weekend.. at first sounded way different to me than previous NGHFB records. Wrong! Not a huge departure, natural continuation of Noel's songwriting. Yes, the bonus track is incredible. Just makes me want Oasis to set it all aside and get back together.

The bonus song makes me want an entire album of just Noel and a guitar. The Oasis demos, especially Hey Now!, that are just Noel are some of my favorite recordings ever.
