While I suspect that in a year or two the meta documentary is going to become as hackneyed as found footage is in the horror genre, the new very-meta Netflix doc Casting Jon Benet is actually pretty interesting.

It's a slow burn type of project - I was tempted to turn it off after five minutes, but give it time and it captures your attention. I've read a few reviews critical of the film for being exploitative or failing to bring any new insight into the murder. Using that logic, most true crime documentaries are guilty of the same.

strong island

heartbreaking story about the directors brothers death due to a racially charged shooting - or maybe not? discovering things alongside the director gives this documentary some real pathos

great compilation of interesting subjects

only scratches the surface

super interesting

fascinating
