Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
So live EP first? That's cool. But hopefully the album isn't coming out later this year.

Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
From the email I got, he implied his new album is coming out this summer and the live EP is for RSD. He was recording over the new year, so that would seem to make sense.

I missed his concert here last summer, and I can't get to Red Rocks for his date this summer either.

Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
I've been listening to the full album stream on NPR. I like it a lot. Starting a road trip to Florida tonight - thinking about changing my route to cut across Alabama instead of Georgia...but either way...I think I'll be playing this non-stop as we venture through the Great Southeast!

Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
Made it about 30 seconds into Zac Brown's "Cover Me Up" before I had to turn it off.
Dude likes covering Isbell. They put Dress Blues (with neutered lyrics) on a studio album recently. But woof, not good. Good for Jason, though. It's a ton of publicity. |

I HATE when someone takes a song and tweaks it in a way to change the tone of the original...even in a small way. That is a key line in the song: there is a bitterness and a sense of frustration in Isbell's original lyric and to change it really blunts the power of the song. What I hate more is that this song had a personal connection for Isbell - written about a kid from his hometown who was killed in Iraq and he uses that to create a heartfelt tribute that is sometimes painfully honest.

A very moving article about the young man who inspired Dress Blues.

Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
kinda weird that i never really listened to isbell in earnest until very recently - i loved his songs while he was in dbt and only ever gave sirens in the ditch a few spins - i did see him live a few times back then [and again yrs later when he opened for ryan]
but ive been on a steady diet of his albums for the past few weeks - really dig the 400 unit and here we rest records - sirens is pretty good - the other two released under his own name just arent doing much for me - they dont seem very cohesive or something - cant quite put my finger on it but im not responding them in near the same way got a copy of the nashville sound on the way - based on the two songs ive heard so far [cumberland gap and hope the high road] im pretty excited |

Re: The Jason Isbell Thread
Saw Isbell this past Saturday at the ACL venue. I've seen him a hand full of times and have to say, he's at the top of his game right now. The 400unit sounded great, best I have seen them.
