Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

Someone should make a Big Colors/Wednesdays leak thread where someone can post as soon as they find anything. There are so many lurkers on this forum (me being one of them for many years). You never know who can do what.

Just sayinnnnnnn

No posting links to leaked copyright material here, thanks.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

Starting Something or Thriller or Beat it.... they're playful songs and don't really reflect Michael Jackson or what he was accused of.

Ryan's songs are so emotive/vulnerable.... his behavior can seems erratic and mean at times, but I still hear the songs as a reflection of him (I really don't read into who a song is suppose to be about or even if the songs are true stories). I think that makes it harder to listen to than MJ, of whoever else has been under scrutiny.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

Depends on the MJ.

You get into the later catalog and things get significantly creepier.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

So I have:

28 t-shirts
5 framed gig posters
Nearly the whole vinyl collection
Signed CDís
Various books, tat, bags, patches

Itís all gone in the loft. I was debating about auctioning it all with the proceeds going to a womenís charity but I donít think thereíll be much interest.

Iíve been getting messages from so many different people. All my work colleagues know me as ďthe Ryan Adams guyĒ so itís been pretty bleak this week. Even my mother in law messaged me.

Gutted about the whole situation as heís been my musical hero for about 15 years. I feel terrible for the women involved. My hope is that he gets cleared of the FBI investigation (as the accusations are particularly messed up) and he goes and gets help.

Maybe one day Iíll be able to listen to him again. Thank god I didnít get the tattoo I was debating about!

Everyone gets to deal with this in their own way. What's right for one isn't right for another.

I am also glad that I didn't get that Cardinal rose tattoo, though...phew.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

I've been a lurker here for a little bit, but just joined today.

Pretty upset by everything that's gone on and I know that it's not over...so I shouldn't pre-judge.

That being said, I love his music and he's been a big influence on my own music. I'll always appreciate the musical influence his music had on me, but I doubt I will listen to him again if these accusations are true. I'd sell all my RA vinyl & posters and move on.

To each, their own.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

Do these lyrics mean anything different to you all?

ďTrouble, I hear the clock tick in the room
The walls will crumble, and you're holding the match to the fuse
There's something I thought just got, nothing else to say
I've been on the beats since yesterday
There's something loose, either way
Hey, we might as well be dead and be gone
If we don't belong here
Hey, the year and the day
That it lands on my face
Like I'm out of my sense
Yeah, and all the trouble I'm in
Trouble I'm in
I feel you watch me cross the room
Another summer, in the palms of the core of doom
Put my hand through the mirror like I'm guard alone
Seven years bad luck is better than none
Following the good back into the gone
Hey, we might as well be dead and be gone
If we don't belong here
Hey, it's the year and the day
That it lands on my face
Like I'm out of my sense
Yeah, and all the trouble I'm in
Umm all the Trouble
Umm, and all the trouble I'm in
I see my brother, he's waiting in line for his turn
I'm not as humble, I know everything here is gonna burn
Sometimes I just got nothing else to say
I've been on the beats since yesterday
There's something loose, either way
Hey, we might as well be dead and be gone
If we don't belong here
Hey, it's the year and the day
That lands on my face
Like I'm out of my sense
Yeah, and all the trouble I'm in
Yeah, all the trouble
Yeah, and all the trouble I'm in
Hey, all the trouble
All the trouble I'm inĒ

What do you think the odds are on someone leaking the record, and curious if this will happen closer to the original release date, or sooner.

When I get back to the point where I can listen to Ryan, I'll gravitate toward non-relationship songs like "Magnolia Mountain," "Let It Ride," "Cold Roses," "Ashes and Fire," etc.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

Fortunately I was never taken with the man, just the music. Maybe a bit of the myth of him, but I let go of that years ago too.

It would be much more of a gut punch for me to learn that Jason Isbell, who by all appearances has conquered his demons and is living a good honest life, doing and saying the right things etc., is a fraud and a creep.

With Ryan, it's like learning that someone you thought was a petulant jerk is a worse and somewhat more sinister petulant jerk. But really it's mostly that he's far more mentally ill than previously known.

It will be awkward for a bit, but with time I'll be listening to Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown songs that mean something to me without the deep conflict that some are experiencing. It's the art that matters. Once released to a public audience, music essentially belongs to the listener to interpret as much as the artist.

Hmm...I thought some of these lyrics were different, here’s my take:

“I’ve been on repeat since yesterday”

“The lines on my face
Like a map of my sins”

“And the palms are the color of doom”

“Put my hand thought the mirror, let the water run”

“Following the bullet back into the gun”

Isn’t that what they are? I haven’t looked them up.

Anyway, these lyrics are the ones I’ve been thinking about that have a new meaning to me:

I think my friends all know
Can’t keep it under control
If loving you is wrong
I am a criminal
Mmm I am a prisoner

Not those specifically, but the general sense of paranoia and imprisonment that have been creeping into his last few albums might be a sign that he knew something like this was coming.

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

So I am seriously curious where the line is for many of the people on here on enjoying the work by terrible people. Is it the act? In other words, is there a line in which it ruins their work i.e murder, rape, etc. Or is it just time? Are you able to enjoy the work of Cellini and Caravaggio because they died centuries ago? I am just curious if it is black and white for those on here, and if not, why not?

Re: Ryan Adams' Music Now

No, nothing is black and white, and I really don't begrudge anyone their personal reactions and decisions based on how they interact with the music

I will grant that ongoing commercial support is a much thornier issue, meaning purchasing concert tickets, merch, etc. after revelations. However, regarding music you've already purchased or procured?

Remember when some right wingers started making public rituals of burning their Nike shoes because of Nike's support of Colin Kaepernick? And one of the popular criticisms of these stupid displays was to point out that Nike had already been paid for the shoes, and these people were simply destroying their own property?

Well...Ryan Adams already got paid for the songs and albums you bought. If you don't personally want them anymore, fine. If that means deleting them from your devices or selling the records to free up space, fine. As for the public displays and goading others to do the same on social media, the act accomplishes nothing of consequence and is an act of absurd vanity and self-importance.
