Any once else drawn to listen to a song since the article?
Silver Bullets came on my AppleMusic mix yesterday, I had to pull over to the shoulder and skip to the next track, I just couldnít listen.

Re: First Ryan Adams Song Since NYT Article

I had literally just made a mix CD for my car that had 4 Ryan/Whiskeytown songs on it the week before the article came out. In the first couple of days after the article, I skipped them when they came on, even though for some reason I didn't think that would be my reaction to it. Over the weekend I did a lot of thinking about it and decided that I'm going to try to separate the artist from the art, so I let Friendly Fire, Karina, Factory Girl and Jeane play when they came on. It didn't feel much different, but I guess I don't feel as connected to the songs as before.

I was so upset about the underage allegations that I spent most of the weekend in bed feeling seriously depressed Ė but strangely my listening habits havenít changed a bit. The music is still magical to me. Iím weird.

Re: First Ryan Adams Song Since NYT Article

As a major fan like most of you, I've been really struggling to process everything since the news broke last week. While the music is still as great as it always was, I haven't been able to enjoy listening to it like I did before. However, while sitting at home alone earlier today I picked up my guitar and started playing Wrecking Ball absentmindedly. For the next 30 minutes I played every RA song I know: Come Pick Me Up, Oh My Sweet Carolina, Miss Sunflower Blue, When The Stars Go Blue, finishing with Let Go. There was something cathartic about playing the songs and hearing them in my own voice. Remembering all the moments in my life soundtracked by these songs, I realized they will always be with me, regardless of what happens to Ryan. It may be a long time (or never) before I can listen to his recordings the same way, but I just thought I'd share something that helped me in these difficult times.

This is what is going to be hardest for me. Ryan's songs are the bulk of what I have taught myself to play on the guitar. I'm trying to take solace in the fact that at least when I sing the words, they will be truer than when he did.

I think it’s perfectly OK to appreciate the art and despise the artist- no??

I think it's perfectly ok to have trouble digesting what's happened, and feel put off by the artist's output for a time. I think it's perfectly ok to appreicate the art and despise the artist. Both things are fine. Whatever works for you is the right thing for you.

100% yes, in my opinion at least. I think people are just having a harder time getting to the point where they can do that, and some people might never get there, which is okay as well.

i thought I might have a weird time but I guess songs I am really into and cover sorta become mine, you know? Like my relationship to playing is a bit diffwrent to listening. Much of what I cover is Ryan Adams too and I sang/played Jacksonville Skyline, 16 Days, When the Stars Go Blue, The End and The Hardest Part and Sweet Illusions the other night. He's also been influential/inspirational in my own songwriting and playing so there's that too

You really need to re-evaluate your life if a complete stranger affects your life that much.

You may be kidding, but I literally saw someone on the RAA Facebook page say she talked to her therapist about this. I guess I've just never let a complete stranger control my life to that extent, but that's just me.
