outbound train

probly gonna be in the minority on this one but [definitely on the album] ryans delivery sounds eerily similar to jesse malin - to the point where i had to check the liner notes the first time i heard it - thought maybe they were trading verses or something

anyone else hear it?

Re: outbound train

I went for a drive yesterday up in the mountains and Prisoner happened to be in the CD player. Haven't listened to the record in a while.

With fresh ears, I think Outbound Train turned out really well. I was disappointed at first because of how different it sounds from the live cuts - but I think they actually compliment each other really nicely. He's made some minor adjustments to the lyrics live, but the studio cut hits. Great effort!

I agree with this. In listening to it a lot more, Outbound Train is still one of my favorites on the album, but before the album was released I had listened to a live cut so many times and was so excited for it that when I heard the studio version I was like "what is this". Now the studio version has grown on me and I like both that and the live versions available around youtube.

Re: outbound train

He's tweaked the lyrics a bit live, but I think this is the best part of the entire record (including the b-sides songs). I just love this writing, the imagery, everything.

"Got this aching in my chest, rolling 'round like a pile of bones. In a broken little box, that looks a lot like you. Laughing to yourself in a crowded room, our eyes knowing more than they probably ought to."

The studio cut he says "sounds a lot like you" but most live ones it's "looks." Great song!
