I'm the old guy here and I haven't been quite as passionate about new releases as I have been in previous years, so take this with a grain of salt.

Tons of killer artists have new stuff out this year, but none of it has really spoken to me.

I like the War On Drugs, much of the LCD record, and the Alvvays record. I like the latter the best. Japandroids is probably my favorite, but prefer Celebration Rock on the whole.

I like the National record, but usually want to take it off an put on High Violet instead.

are you familiar with red house painters? that was his band back in the day - very similar to american music club/mark eitzel - so id recommend checking them out also - eitzel helped kozelek get a record deal

red house painters albums to check out would be the first self titled aka rollercoaster and songs for a blue guitar

theres also sun kil moon - id recommend ghosts of the great highway - admiral fell promises and benji

im a huge fan of common as light and love are red valleys of blood - be warned: its a double album - two hrs worth of music and [to me] brilliantly inspired by hip hop - soooo good!

as far as kozeleks proper solo releases im a big fan of the early stuff with ac/dc and john denver covers - rock n roll singer and whats next to the moon

also - i was kidding but it turns out i was pretty close - thats his fourth album so far this yr!
Thank you! Quite the list! It's gonna take me a while to get through it, especially since he releases so many albums, but it will be worth it. I get up and go to sleep with 'House Cat'.

yer welcome! hope you hear something you like out of that list

its getting kinda hard to keep up with him - especially since he releases stuff under different names and collaborates with so many people - its very similar to will oldham aka bonnie prince billy in that way

i need to get that album and check out the house cat song!

I feel the same way...getting old...since 2016, only a few albums have been really infiltrating the emotional ocean, where it used to be a hell of a lot more per year. I was super hyped for The War on Drugs, listened to Thinking of a Place literally 100+ times, but when I heard the rest of the album, it all had the same sound going on through every song, and it sounded cool and effortless, but I feel like I got all that in Lost in the Dream, which to me was a more rewarding listen.

I feel like the album could have just been Thinking of a Place and four more songs and it would have been a killer EP (or LP, with these song lengths). But whatever...pay that man his money, and that they did.
