The Damned. Jack Nicholson is just brilliant doing what he always does so well - playing sinister with menace. Even Leonard DiCaprio is good. It's an excellent film with an unexpected ending.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Knocked Up is getting rave early reviews. Written by the same guy responsible for The 40 Year Old Virgin - and featuring much of the original support cast from that film - this one should be great.

From Variety:

Quote:
"Knocked Up" is uproarious. Line for line, minute to minute, writer-director Judd Apatow's latest effort is more explosively funny, more frequently, than nearly any other major studio release in recent memory. Indeed, even more than the filmmaker's smash-hit sleeper "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," his new pic is bound to generate repeat business among ticketbuyers who'll want to savor certain scenes and situations again and again, if only to memorize punchlines worth sharing with buddies. Currently set for a June 1 release, this hugely commercial comedy likely will remain in megaplexes throughout the summer and, possibly, into the fall.

Mysterious Skin.

Two teenage boys share a terrible childhood secret that one can't remember and the other can't forget. It is quite a confronting film at times, and not always easy to watch, but the script is superb and the acting flawless.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Babel

Linking personal stories and global politics, Alejandro González Iñárritu's third and most ambitious feature uses taught storytelling to shocking emotional effect. Like Iñárritu's previous films Amores Perros and 21 Grams, with which it forms a trilogy, it is concerned with the consequences of random acts and fate, and takes its title from the biblical reference to people being scattered around the world speaking different languages and unable to communicate.

This sums it up better than I could. It was uncomfortable viewing and my friend told me it was about "synchronisity" (however it's spelled). A very very good film.

Re: Movie Recommendations

The Weather Man - Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine star. Touchingly funny and manages to avoid the usual Hollywood cliches.

Nicholas Cage shows he is a skilled actor if given good material to work with.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Saw The Weather Man last week, better than I expected. Funny with the throwing of Slush Puppies and all. As long as Cage isn't an action hero he's OK. Michael Caine I always like and he made it a better movie for sure.

Another I saw recently was The Dog Pound. Higly recommended!

Re: Movie Recommendations

I've started to watch the Christopher Guest mock documentaries, Waiting For Guffman and Best In Show.

Watch Batman Begins last night, that was really good, was a lot more faithful to the comics.

I'm going to see Oceans 13 (or whatever number it is) on Tuesday. 2 hours of George Clooney can't be all bad.

I just saw it a couple nights ago and am still laughing at a lot of the jokes. And what I've heard off that soundtrack sounds really good, but I've yet to find an actual copy of it.

Is it as good as 40 Year Old Virgin?

As for the soundtrack, I ordered it from Amazon after hearing a few tracks on music blogs. I've never listened to much Loudon Wainwright before, but what I've heard is great. Funny and clever.
