Re: Game of Thrones

This is a fun theory about last night.

Spoiler:
It wasn’t Arya it was Jaqen wearing her face

1. Walked like Jaqen, wore hair parted down the middle, threw the coin with the right hand (Arya is left handed)

2. Was too obvious. Arya would have never asked for a cabin. The money was thrown around too casually, even if she was capable of stealing such a sum.

3. Lingering shot of statue on the bridge, maybe sorry to leave. Arya hasn’t been there that long, doesn’t have a particular fondness for the place. Could have stowed away as a cabin boy too easily

4. Jaqen’s life belongs to her. He promised her 3 lives to take for the Red God. He took 2, then she named him as her 3rd. Instead of dying he bargained and agreed to help her escape but then when he left he gave her the coin and told her to come to Braavos. And he gave her the words Valar Morghulis, all men must die. Knowing what we know about their relationship with death there would have been no bargain really. He believes in death

His life is owed to the Red God. No bargain can change his fate and he knows it. He willingly dies in Arya’s place, wearing her face, to fulfill the contract on his own life. He also was testing the Waif who did not fulfill the contract correctly by doing a belly wound instead of killing quickly. Waif is going to go out before he is gone officially. Scenes from next week show Waif running/ chasing possible real Arya

I like that theory. My only question is
Spoiler:
Can he wear the face of a person still living? For some reason I thought only the faces of the dead could be worn.

She did pull it off him in the finale last year just before she went blind.

But I think that theory is over thinking it. I think its exactly what we saw.

Re: Game of Thrones

My thought was that the waif did almost exactly what Jaqen told her not to do.
Spoiler:
Stabbing Arya in the gut doesn't seem like a way to "not make her suffer." And she didn't confirm the kill. So the waif seems to be in a tough spot here too. My guess is maybe Arya gets saved by the actress, not sure what else could happen though.

But the Starks really are a stupid Family. No idea why they want us to root for them.

Re: Game of Thrones

Crazy episode. But yeah, the Starks could be a little smarter.

Spoiler:
Jon obviously deserves blame for abandoning their plan once Rickon was killed. But had Sansa mentioned her message to Little Finger, Jon likely would have waited. No clue what the point of that was.

Re: Game of Thrones

^Pretty accurate display of my feelings.

I found it really interesting that, after the show when the writers discuss what happened, they didn't mention Bran's vision at all. I feel like they want to leave us in doubt about what we saw.

Re: Game of Thrones

I'm kinda torn about the talk that next season will be 7 episodes and season 8 will be 6 episodes.

On the plus side, fewer episodes means more budget to go around and a streamlined narrative. On the downside, I don't want things rushed. I think the pacing of this season was a bit rushed vs last seasons where it was a tad slow. Given the choice I'd prefer a slower build rather than being thrown into it.

Also for all the talk about Winte coming and the threat of the undead, 6 episodes seems like a short amount of time to solve that problem and provide an epilogue.

Enjoyed the episode, but the Ed Sheeran appearance was random and awkward. I hated the closeup on him like the director really needed us to recognize that it was Ed Sheeran. It just kind of takes you out of the scene a little bit.

I had never heard of or seen the guy before so it didn't bother me at all.
