Re: The Jason Isbell Thread

yeah iím not overly crazy about the track list but Iíll always take a live album.

i donít remember where but i heard him say he got to pick from six shows worth of tracks and tried to cover the last three albums. all were picked by him.

thats awesome - i really want to see him again - he opened for two shows i was at but i wasnt all that interested in him at the time - the first was when he opened for son volt in 2007 and then when he opened for ryan when he was touring for ashes & fire - ive definitely grown to appreciate isbell much more at this point

enjoy the ryman show!

I'd like to see these get more regular play again: Goddamn Lonely Love, Danko/Manuel, TVA, Tour of Duty, Cigarettes and Wine, Dress Blues, Streetlights. Among others.

The setlist from Ryman is only so-so for me. Just not my favorite collection of tunes. But what I've heard sounds great.

agreed! although he has never played anything from ST for a long time now. he played TVA somewhere not too long ago.

Sadler is an incredible player too. Overall the band is pretty great.

Hopefully we get a new album in the next year or so.

jason, sadler, and sturgill fucking simpson jumped on stage to shred out with diarrhea planet last night. the stuffy ryman crowd was disgusted but it was so so epic.

Bambino, looking at the sets from the Ryman run I think the 26th would have been my favorite.

So many great older songs getting played. And Danko/Manuel remains my favorite Isbell tune.

The mix/production on the new live record is getting absolutely shat on from all corners - anyone heard it? Opinions?

so put on the LP for the first time tonight (orange, 2x 140g)

have to admit itís a bit clumsy, which is unfortunate because thatís why the band is so good, they just flow so well. it seems like they tried to pull out Chadís drum track too much, as it is always a bit buried/muted at their shows, and they kind of overcooked it IMO.

it ainít great.

Always a good sign

I see that Todd Snider came out and played Train Song with Amanda and Jason during one of her sets at the Ryman residency. Awesome.

I saw Isbell open up for Snider in 2012 at the Moody Theater. It was a solo show so Isbell and Amanda sat in with him for the entire set. Last song of the night, Todd goes into a Jerry Jeff story and then got Jerry Jeff to come out on stage to sing Mr. Bojangles. There's a youtube clip of it, pretty cool moment.

Todd is the best. I'll check out that clip.

I know he officiated Jason and Amanda's wedding. I wonder if Ryan and him have ever crossed paths?
