Worth pointing out that those clips were originally posted before the article was released.

He’s also written a million of those long, inspirational messages before. They were usually quickly followed by some form of shitty behavior. It’s all hollow.

The fact that he’s trying to control things by disabling Instagram comments is telling, too. It all feels really hollow to me, and he’s in for a rude awakening when he tries to step out of social media and into places where people can question him. I imagine the Mandys and Phoebes might have something to say, too.

it’s irrelevant who fired who. She posted it because of how ridiculous his message was. She was essentially firing him by doing that

yep. i for one used to actually believe him and touted those posts as who he actually was as a person.

the faux, self serving, nonsensical and what seems to be intended as apologetic, statement he made follows his normal pattern but this time the stakes are much higher and many more people are keen to his bullshit.

guess we’ll see what he has to say ‘So Soon’ but meanwhile we’ll likely watch the narcissistic behavior carry out as he tags Jeopardy, Fender, Grateful Dead, xyz in posts and blocks people who post anything that doesn’t fit his narrative

Still hoping for the best for the guy, this just all seems backwards

Worth noting that “reduced to rubble for confusion” was initially “reduced to rubble for lies”.

Oh damn you're right. I have a screen shot of the original. It's so upsetting because deep down I want him to learn from this and become a better person. But everything he has ever said since the article broke has rubbed me the wrong way. It's always all about pitying him with little sprinkles of talking about other things ("believe women"). He just clearly can't break away from the narcissistic behavior.

Mentioning his brother is really wild in the context of these abuse allegations.

Also weird is that he previously stated the last time he saw his brother was the night of the Carnegie Hall live recordings. So he went three years without seeing him before he passed while he was terminally ill.

Overall, dude has learned nothing since these allegations came out.

Here's the thing. It's going to be about him. It has to be. People have this idea that you somehow get better/reflect/change by completely eschewing any sort of emphasis on yourself and your feelings, when the opposite is true. Literally the only way to improve yourself is to start from how you felt and what you're going through, figure out how those feelings and experiences manifested in bad behavior toward others and then try to figure out your own shit so that it never triggers said bad behavior again. As someone who has diagnosed mental health issues and has been through this process, there's no other way. Otherwise, you're just saying what you're supposed to say, but not actually getting to the crux of your behaviors. You can know something is wrong and, if you don't get into your own feelings, you'll never fix it; the reasons we do the shit we do are always living in the uncomfortable ways in which we see and have experienced the world. Try to go into any therapist's office and talk about mistakes by saying "I was wrong/that person was wronged by me/I am sorry" and they will tell you that's a good start, but will demand you start talking MORE about yourself.

It's just not good PR or considerate to mention any of that publicly. You want to validate the experience of people who might've been hurt and tuck your own experiences and reasons away for private reflection. It makes you look selfish and insensitive to get into your own weaknesses that publicly.

I don't think what Ryan doesn't "get" is that he needs to improve, I think what Ryan doesn't get is how he can talk about that improvement in a very exacting public space in which his words and the sensitivity thereof will be picked apart with a fine tooth comb. I also think it's very probable that he hasn't gotten very far in that process. What's he explaining actually makes sense from a genuine process of self improvement, but saying it out load is going to get him in trouble.

Re: Ryan Adams, abuse, and the Stans that love them.

He called the accusations "lies" in his original posts. He told his manager that he wasn't "interested in this healing crap". You're projecting your own progress on him, because there is absolutely no indication that he realizes the problem lies with him. He's back because he wants to make music again, not because he's done any real improvement. He's a narcissist, and one of the foundations of narcissism is a failure to recognize their role in things. He's always the victim.

On an interesting note, his manager is back to following him on Instagram. I guess the ethics go out the window when money is to be made.
