TBY users 2017 Top Ten lists.

Now that Taylor Swift has dropped, I donít think there is much more impactful stuff thatís gonna drop. Time to start thinking.

Re: 2017 Top Ten lists.

2017 seems (to me, at least) to be the year all our favourite artists put out a decent record, but unremarkable compared to their previous work.

I've listened to and enjoy Japandroids and WOD the most this year. Japandroids is kind of commercial for them which softens their sting; the WOD, as Tim says, is more of the same. The National's new one is good, it just isn't capturing my interest. Prisoner's is fine, haven't heard it in awhile. I don't really want a "dark" Taylor Swift record. LCD is good, I don't mind it playing in the background, but haven't really gotten fully immersed in it. Didn't even hear the Arcade Fire record. There's new artists as usual with really vague names and album covers. I'd be looking there for something special but just haven't had the time.

Re: TBY users 2017 Top Ten lists.

This year has been pretty great for me. Lots of great full albums. I consider everything below perfect, front to back. Don't know about order, but here goes:

Impermanence - Peter Silberman
Why Love Now - Pissed Jeans
Unholy Rush - Mindsnare
V - The Horrors
Hitchhiker - Neil Young
Worthless Soul - Sievehead
Nightmare Logic - Power Trip
Keeping Up With... - The Uglies
Cellar Dweller - Impalers
Relatives in Descent - Protomartyr
Personae Intratae/Proselytes - Rope Sect
Motherblood - Grave Pleasures
Cryptasm - Nightfear
Dancing Chrome - Night Sins
Hustle Up Starlings - Matthew Ryan
The Underside of Power - Algiers
Hatteras Night, A Good Luck Charm - Will Johnson

Still more I need to get my hands on/wrap my ears around, but yeah, good year.

Re: TBY users 2017 Top Ten lists.

I found this quite difficult, made me realise what a good year it's been. Some of the albums I expected to be at the top of my list (WOD, National) ended up being a bit lower, and some of my favourite artists (Arcade Fire - some great songs on that album but too patchy overall) didn't even make my top 10. A few albums that I really rate didn't make the cut either, just due to how many good albums there were.

1. Lorde - Melodrama
2. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN
3. LCD Soundsystem - American Dream
4. Ryan Adams - Prisoner
5. St Vincent - Masseduction
6. The War On Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
7. The National - Sleep Well Beast
8. Conor Oberst - Salutations
9. Kirin J Callinan - Bravado
10. The Mynabirds - Be Here Now

Honourable mentions:
Justin Townes Earle - Kids In The Street
Beck - Colors
Fleet Foxes - Crack Up
Future Islands - The Far Field
Neil Young - Hitchiker (I considered this more of a reissue than a new album so didn't consider it for my top 10, it possibly would have made it otherwise)

The clear case ones are Vince Staples' "Big Fish Theory" and St. Vincent's "Masseduction", by the way.

Hahah of course!!

Probably could've put another dozen honourable mentions -- seems I'm in the minority, but I actually thought this was a pretty good year for music.
