I fixed it.

It's really more of an 'alleged' relationship....they probably just had a quick fling.

That would explain why he refuses to admit he actually dated Winona.

As for the Beth thing....am I alone in thinking Elizabeth, You Were Born To Play That Part is about her?

I know he's said in the past that the song was named after his 'friend's' unborn child's name, but I think otherwise....Beth Orton did have a baby a couple of years ago, and I'm thinking she may have miscarried a child before giving birth (making the title You Were Born To Play That Part make all the more sense, as in, she was meant to be a mother eventually).

Ryan sure did sound emotional while explaining the backstory of the song in the live recording I have....hmmmm??

I always thought that too MM. I thought it was fairly obvious about a love relationship ending and the sorrow that comes with loosing someone you love so much. Then my father-in-law died and it fit that feeling very much too. So I don't know.

I think it was about a miscarriage....maybe his baby?

I have no idea, all I know is that there's a song in the downloads section of TBY (I think it's titled as Elizabeth Intro), and on it, he's basically telling the audience what it's about, and he's got this shaky voice when he starts to say his 'friend' lost a child....it almost sounds as if it happened to him....I don't know?

Edit: Found it!

He mentions him and he asked me to play it so I don't think it was his baby. But it obviously affected him a lot. But then he is very emotional...so....and I think he likes kids.

I just thought he may have said it was a friend because he didn't want people to speculate any further (like what we're doing right now ) on who the mother was.

Also, guys who've gone through something like that usually have a tough time talking about it, sometimes feeling like they have to put up an emotional guard of sorts.

You could be right but I don't think so. Although he does sound very emotional. However, how long did he go out with Beth Orton and would the time scales fit in and did he just up and leave....so many questions. I still think it's not going to run but show me some more positive stuff.

I once read an article with Beth Orton in which the interviewer asked her about Ryan and her and she avoids the question and then says, "I write my songs in a way that people don't know who I'm talking about. And I don't fabricate relationships to get material". Or something to that effect. It was a very weird response. I'm obviously paraphrasing. I might be off a little.

I know he says he dated her - does she ever admit dating him?

I'll try to find the article.

I think I read that when I was doing my research. I couldn't find any mention of a miscarriage though. It had to have been 02 because he was on Daybreaker is that right?

Re: Jwlz- rockin a James Taylor Martin. happy bookstore jammin. that...

Daybreaker came out in '02 (he appeared on the song Concrete Sky), and the song English Girls Approximately (which we know is definitely about Beth) was probably written in '03 for it to come out on Love Is Hell....Elizabeth, You Were Born To Play That Part came out in 2005 (on 29), but who knows when that was originally written.

This is from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Orton has been romantically linked with a number of high profile musicians, including William Orbit and Ryan Adams. Adams' songs "English Girls Approximately", "You Will Always Be The Same" & "Friends/For Beth" were written about her.

Orton gave birth to a daughter, Nancy, in mid-December 2006. She cancelled her September 2006 UK tour because of her pregnancy.
