Re: "BUG" novel chapter sketch (2nd Edit)

I have it. Yes, it ends around Demolition time I think. It's by Michael Heatley. I read it a few years ago but I don't remember it being very good. It's not a collection of articles, it's an actual biography.

I think you all should try layering the December tour dates over these chapters and see if you can "read" what Mr Adams was planning/predicting/wishing for

I don't have the time, nor the attention span, and my book is already packed away for moving. So can you just tell me? Thanks.

I wouldn't have thought the chapters need much explanation. They are about him. He falls in love. He has a tantrum. He loses love and is sad. He finds love again. He remains misunderstood and awesome throughout all these wacky adventures. The End.

i'm writing a book currently and am at 304 pages (50,000 word count). that is pretty low still, considering most publishers want about 65-80k words.

also, i don't think i would ever read his book. i'm a really bad fan.

Pfft, slowbie. Ryan can write a novel once a week.
Also I think I shall join you in not reading his book. Not reading his poetry book worked well for me so I'm sticking with this successful strategy.

Re: "BUG" novel chapter sketch (2nd Edit)

slowbie for sure. it's taken me about 4 years so far (2 years being on an extended writing vacation).

it's funny he wrote that character sketch. i think in a tumblr i mentioned to him that he should outline the chapters and do mini summaries for each. i doubt he read/took my suggestions...but i'll be delusional about it and think to myself that he did.

the sad part is that the small tidbits of each chapter aren't that great. there is no depth and i wonder if he can truly convey depth and feeling in a novel format rather than in a poem or a song. who knows for sure, but at least he has a contract with akashic. that's nice.

i'm sure it will get edited to hell.

Best of luck with it. Unless you're Ryan, a novel seems like an enormous project and I admire people who attempt it. And yes, I imagine some poor editor is going to go cross-eyed fixing up RA's manuscript.

thanks. although sometimes it angers me that people who are not celebrities but have really good ideas/stories get shot down by agents and publishers because they're not rich and/or famous.

sort of like what's going on with this thread.

OK Gotcha - and agree completely. I'm not even sure what he's book idea is.

I suspect he will just write about his own life and change a few of the name around.

I don't like 'Reynolds' as a name much, but writing about your own life with the names changed around accounts for about 90% of all first novels.

I was quoting what a literary agent once told me. Maybe she exaggerated,
but it's still an awful lot of them.

I think you had the red avatar, when I wrote this... looked a little like his style. He does silkscreens/printmaking for some shows in Chicago... Fugazi, Shellac (he did the cover of their last record), and his own records with Dianogah.
