Ha ha man, here's me wondering whether or not Id play the vinyl enough to even open the shrinkwrap when it comes. Maybe if we all pitch in a couple of dollars, this guy will rip apart the entire thing.

Re: Boxset secret thread

Finally got mine this morning! While I'm totally pumped on it...the thing itself is pretty impressive, I can't help but feel just slightly bummed that this is all there is. Had there not been such a lead up, I'm sure I would be flat out over the moon about this, but with all of the delays, the advertising as something containing hidden secrets...I can't help but feel like it was slightly overhyped. I could be completely wrong here, too. He could come out and say "flip the thing upside down, you dummies!" and blammo - the fucking full length documentary from 2005 starts getting projected on your bedroom wall. I do feel like if there were more than just the extra 7", at least one of those things would have been found already. Multiple "hidden" things in a box like this would have to require at least a couple of them to be easily found. Hell, even just as incentive to keep pouring over the thing, trying to figure out what else it could possibly contain...

It's funny...as soon as i downloaded the B-sides from the email that was sent out and i saw tracks 18 and 19, i said to myself, "thats going to be the secret right there. an unexpected extra 7 inch" and was immediately sort of bummed...like i had just caught the ending of a movie i wanted to see, but hadn't started yet haha.

If nothing else is found, this is still an awesome thing to have. As i said before, any feeling of discontent that i have with it is purely based on pre-release speculation, anticipation of hunting for "hidden" stuff, and, i suppose, anticipation in general just because of the shipping delays in tandem with the things RA has said along the way about the box set in general. I wonder if i were to go back and read all the write ups about it and whatever quotes Ryan himself has said regarding the box, if I didn't build it up to be something more than it was in my own head haha. Ah well. Very cool looking box and a very cool idea in general. Still glad i got it. Just...y'know. haha.

Re: Boxset secret thread

Oh, the other thing is, I wonder how long he will let us speculate and, in some cases, tear these things to shreds before he comes out and says "you found it already! stop!"

Re: Boxset secret thread

Has anyone put it under a black light as someone else suggested? Or what about a magnifying glass to find tiny details? And didn't Ryan say something about another band's collector item that revealed something when it was taken outside in sun? If there really is something hidden beyond the extra 7", may have to get creative.

Re: Boxset secret thread

The thing about it being in the sun came up during an interview - I think it was a David Bowie album. Yeah, I can relate to feeling the slight disappointment - I remember him saying something about a video game and I was totally thinking it was going to be some kind of retro themed Ryan Adams game. If the cardboard cutout of an arcade machine is the "video game" - then yeah I feel like it under-delivered.

Keep expecting someone to go full Mike Ehrmantraut on the boxset and strip it completely.

Re: Boxset secret thread

The only other thing I could think of us in the back, if you peel the sides up there's a little white hunk of something that might be able to be taken out and investigated. I poked a hole in it (small one) and can't really see anything in there.

I felt the same way until I realized he said "felines" will be in the box. Live cats wouldn't work here JK

Note - I totally agree with you. I was looking forward to playing a video game....but I'm still excited about the set.
