Re: New Tracks, Prisioner 2/3

Do you think he's trying too hard to assure folks, or rather himself, that he's still got it? In his earlier years he'd claim to knock out song after song and we believed him. Now though it seems as though he's making too much of it in a way that indicates he's realising he's not the prolific artist he was 20 years ago.

Maybe load of bullshit but that's the impression i am getting.

Re: New Tracks, Prisioner 2/3

I'd say it's more that he now has the immediacy of social media, and that he's clearly going through some personal shit. The tone of this stuff isn't all that different from his old rambling blogs.

If he actually does what he's threatening, he'll have four releases from the "Prisoner" era. And the album he's working on is the third batch of songs since then. I'd say that's fairly prolific.

I'm guessing that means he cut 1-2 takes of 19 songs with single guitar and drums, most of which will probably be used as reference demos for when it comes time to start tackling specific arrangements.

I'll say this: his last significant effort(s) at Electric Lady yielded Prisoner/B-Sides/PII/PIII. Who knows about the timeframe for this new stuff (Prisoner was recorded over multiple sessions spread out over time... whole process was somewhere close to 2 years), but I have to think he wouldn't book studio time at Electric Lady if he wasn't set on following through with these songs. Otherwise he'd just be messing around with them at Pax-AM to see what happens, the way he did with this "album" from earlier in the year, which has been scrapped, according to him:

he paid for studio time and a high priced actual engineer (Glyn Johns) and scrapped that whole thing so...

Re: New Tracks, Prisioner 2/3

I don't get why he has his own studio, but then when it comes time do do the album, he goes to EL and Capitol Studios to record.

He has a demo setup in his house.

He said he recorded Prisoner at Electric Lady because he needed to get out of LA for awhile.

that confuses me as well. he could have SO much more freedom as an artist- and truly record and release what he wants- whenever he wants.
it's like he's clipping his own wings. maybe overthinking it?

I hope he's open to working with a producer again. I guess Don Was was involved with Prisoner, but I think Ryan's credited as producing it.

I wonder what his relationship is like with Ethan Johns. Would like to see them collaborate again down the road.

Its the right decision IMO, I don't think he gets that great of a sound at PaxAm. Things sound kind of muddled.

If hes got the money for a dick around studio, more power to him, I just don't get why he would go anywhere else, or build a studio when he decides to record elsewhere.

Re: New Tracks, Prisioner 2/3

No idea what these sound like, but based on the titles, heres the record.

As A Light
Things Are Losing Meaning
Keep Me Tonight
Summer Rain
In You Arms
Take Me Home
So Shattered
Too Much More
Showtime
Missing Pieces
In The Blue of the Night
When You Cross Over

These sound like they would be a RA record.

I've not been paying too much attention. Are these the songs he's recording at the studio? Some of them are rock. Is there any indication of the musicians, aside from his mate? don't have to be, he's played all the instruments on some of his albums before.
