Attenuator. For apartment amp cranking.

Goddamn, my acoustic needs a refret, amp needs new tubes & my home studio needs bass traps. Love spending shit-tons of cash on repairs & goddamned foam.

The Weber is a lot of fun even using it to push pedals harder, best purchase I have made in awhile.

My buddy picked up his Archer after playing with my Klon and it's the same damn thing. I bought my Klon when he was still building them, I get the hype but not the price of what they go for.

If you ever get a chance to play a Sunlion try it, just picked one up with Mullard Transistors on both sides of the pedal \m/ROCK\m/

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

you guys have any recommendations on loop pedals? Iíve been lazy and mainly playing acoustic but am considering grabbing a looper to hopefully inspire me a bit.

RC1 seems like a solid choice but still thinking about others.

Not a huge looper fan, have one just to practice scales in different keys.

But i really like the ditto from TC electronics, not expensive and easy to use

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

I have an old Boomerang. I like it. I find is creates a little hiss and interferes with the signal a bit. I'm sure a new one would fare a little better, but the TC and entry Boss' are less money.

I have one of the big Roland RC-30s. I rarely use it but it is pretty kickass, hard to imagine anything better for the price.

It's funny if I plug it in there will be song ideas stored in it from years ago that I've completely forgotten about it...

hadn't heard of the Streamliner guitars -- was hoping they were between the Electromatic (low end) and regular guitars -- but after Googling looks like they are cheaper than the Electromatics...

I have several high end Gretches, they are amazing. The lower end stuff doesn't really do it for me (even before I owned any Grestch guitars that was true).

If you can afford it I'd recommend looking for a nice used high end Gretsch... bought 2 of mine used at really good prices, they seem to go pretty low used compared to Les Pauls etc. One of mine I basically traded a Tele (that I'd grown to hate) even for the Gretsch... can't complain.

I understand everyone has a budget so maybe that's not possible.

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

thanks for the input. Yeah lower end stuff will sometimes grab my interest depending on what it is. The smaller body streamliner in the colors available seemed appealing although variability in the build quality and lower end parts always end up turning me away. I have friends who get a lot out of Epis, Squiers, and budget Fenders so iím always at least open / curious.

I have a 73 thinline still, it needs a replacement bridge pickup and a full set up.

Iíll just keep contributing the max to my 401k and pray

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

to me probably the main downside to the cheap Gretsches are the pickups. That's good news in a way because you can always buy a pair of legit pickups and put them in the guitar.... but then you have to stop and think, wait, is it worth spending $300-$400 to upgrade the pickups of a $400 guitar? (Including installation if like me you can't do that kind of thing yourself).

There's a lot of really good guitars between $500-$1000 now, though, compared to when I was a kid. I think you've gotta go to a local store and play them for a couple of months to find one at that range that seems a step better, as opposed to ordering sight unseen.

the main thing I look for in a new guitar, though, is the intonation and tuning. If I have problems getting the thing in tune or to stay in tune in the store I'm just: no way. Sometimes it might just need a setup but that's the store's job ffs.

Once I went by a music store and they had a sweet Rickenbacker that kind of interested me, but it had a short in one of the switches. New guitar. I said, "I might be interested in that if it didn't have the problem." The guy said, "Oh, we'd fix that for you if you buy it... it's an easy fix" I rolled my eyes until they fell out of my head... they'll fix it if I buy it but they can't fix it before that?

Went back 6 months later and the guitar was still there and still had the short in it. Still hanging on the wall with the same price tag.

Oof. With the departure of Mark Agnesi from Norm's Rare Guitars (he was hired as a brand exec at Gibson - Make Gibson Great Again!) Todd Wisenbaker (formerly of the Unknown Band) has been hired.

Looks like he'll be "helping" with the GOTD feature along with Norm regular Michael Lemmo.

Mark is a super nice guy... never knew his name but I remember his face from a few trips out to Tarzana. I wonder what exactly he will be doing at Gibson? Happy for him.

I will try to find that -- I'm not an Instagram user -- that app drives me nuts. But what the heck does a "director of brand experience" do? Sounds like a Disney job title, and you'd walk around with mouse ears on or something.

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

the job description is just a bunch of corporate blather though.... very Disneyesque in fact.

I'm sure he will do things for them that they don't know need to be done, and maybe that's his actual job description.

being a professional influencer sounds like a dream job, to be honest. unlike being in marketing or sales, where you gotta do a bunch of shitty work and lie for a living (more or less), *and* show actual metrics of success, being an influencer means you can just do you (or a flavor of you) literally for a living.

don't get me wrong, i bemoan the society we live in where this is a thing. but if i had to do any job and get paid well enough for it, running around playing guitars and talking to guitar players would be pretty high on the list.

Yeah Minimass is an attenuator, I don't mind what it does I just boost the treble all sounds good to me.

It was funny, but maybe I am not smart.

Don't get the Martin and Ryan Adams, wouldn't it be a Guild or a Harmony?

Know Ryan played I think a D-16 in the early 2000's and Neal Casal had an HD-28V (sold it) on the Easy tiger record.

I love my HD-28V reminds me of Bobby D and Neil Young \m/

Re: The Electric Guitar Player Thread

I thought of it as just a linkage between martins and their heavy use among singer songwriters.

Harmony or Guild wouldnít have been as notable. I do love those sovereign jumbos, still. If i ever come across one at a reasonable price Iíd grab it.
